The LA Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves will meet on Sunday afternoon, in one of the final sporting events before Super Bowl LX takes center stage later in the day. Both of these Western Conference teams are in postseason spots out West, but they signaled very different intentions at the trade deadline. Here, I break down this contest in the NBA and give you my Clippers vs Timberwolves prediction on the basketball court.
Our Clippers vs Timberwolves Pick
Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves -8.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: 4/5
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: LA Clippers @ Minnesota Timberwolves
- Date & Time: Sunday, February 8, 2026, 3:00 PM ET
- Venue: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Broadcast: ESPN
Key Storylines
- Injuries and availability: The Clippers list Darius Garland out with a toe issue, Bradley Beal out for the season, and newly-acquired Bennedict Mathurin as out. Minnesota has Julius Randle listed day to day with a thumb issue, but they don't have any major injury concerns going into this contest.
- Top scorers: Kawhi Leonard averages 27.7 points for LA on elite efficiency. Anthony Edwards leads Minnesota at 29.8 points with improved shooting from all levels. The difference between these teams is the depth around those elite scorers. Edwards has more of a supporting cast, especially with the Clippers acting as sellers at the trade deadline, which should give the advantage to Minnesota.
- Stylistic contrasts: LA plays slower and prioritizes shot-making and free throws, ranking 1st in the league at 83.5% from the line. Minnesota pushes closer to league average pace with superior offensive rebounding and rim protection through Rudy Gobert, who called out the effort level of his team recently.
- Both teams have dropped two of their last three games. The Clippers most recently defeated the struggling Sacramento Kings, while the Wolves took a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans in surprising fashion in their last outing.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Minnesota won the first meeting between these teams by three points in Minneapolis in December.
- Minnesota is 23-30 against the spread so far this season.
- The Clippers are 24-27 against the spread entering this matchup.
- The under is 27-26 in Timberwolves games so far this year.
- The under is 26-25 in Clippers games this season.
Clippers vs Timberwolves Model Projection
Score Projection: LA Clippers 100 – Minnesota Timberwolves 111
Win Probability: LA Clippers 38%, Minnesota Timberwolves 62%
Final Thoughts
The Clippers made it clear at the trade deadline that they are not planning on competing for a championship right now. Trading for an injured Darius Garland does nothing to make the Clippers better right now, and the Timberwolves should take full advantage of LA trading away Ivica Zubac as well. I'll lay the points with a hungry Timberwolves team as they should showcase the effort that Rudy Gobert recently said was lacking.
