The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz will collide in a Western Conference matchup on Thursday night at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Both teams enter this contest with similar sub-.500 records and different motivations as the season approaches the midpoint. The Mavericks (14-23) have struggled with consistency but are trying to build around number one overall pick Cooper Flagg. The Jazz (12-23) are likely looking toward the trade deadline more than they are looking forward to anything on the floor at this point. Here, I break down this matchup and give you my Mavericks vs Jazz prediction in the NBA.
Pick: | Jazz +7.5 |

Both teams have endured disappointing campaigns heading into this clash, sitting outside of playoff positioning in the Western Conference. Dallas enters as the road favorite, though its 4-12 road record this season doesn't inspire a ton of confidence away from home. Utah is 8-11 at home and has been better at home than they are on the road and they will try to get a win here to snap a five-game losing streak.
Injuries are a significant factor in this contest. Dallas will be without Dereck Lively II and Dante Exum for the season, and Kyrie Irving is out. P.J. Washington is listed as questionable with an ankle issue, and Brandon Williams is questionable as well. Utah is missing Georges Niang and Kevin Love, and Ace Bailey is a game-time decision. Walker Kessler remains out for the season with a shoulder injury. Both teams are banged up, though the top scorers on both teams for this season will be available.
Utah’s Keyonte George has emerged as a primary offensive weapon and the Jazz have shown they can put up points, especially in front of their home crowd. Dallas has had mixed results recently, but Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis are both on the floor and that could help them get over the hump in this game.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Keyonte George | Over 25.5 Points |
Anthony Davis | Over 12.5 Rebounds |
Score Projection: Mavericks 118 – Jazz 116
Win Probability: Mavericks 62%, Jazz 38%
I think we are going to see a close game between these teams on Thursday night. I'm taking the points with the Jazz, as they should be able to hang around against a Mavs team that has been truly awful on the road this year.
