The Cleveland Cavaliers travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets on Wednesday night in an interesting Eastern Conference matchup. Cleveland enters with a winning record but is dealing with important absences, while Charlotte has shown life recently despite a sub-.500 record. The Cavs are slight favorites going into this game and you can find my Cavaliers vs Hornets prediction below.
Pick: | Cavs -2.5 ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 3/5 |
The Cavaliers (24-20) are favored on the road despite facing several injuries. Darius Garland, Max Strus, and Sam Merrill are all out, creating opportunities for bench players to step into larger roles. Cleveland’s star guard Donovan Mitchell remains the focal point of the offense and will likely shoulder much of the scoring load. The Cavs have been inconsistent against the spread lately, going 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games. However, they have a strong straight-up road record against the Hornets and will try to add to that here.
Charlotte (16-27) has hovered around the .500 mark in recent games, showcasing better net rating numbers over the past couple of weeks and proving capable of big offensive outputs when its key pieces click. Rookie Kon Knueppel has done a great job in his first season as a pro, shooting efficiently from three-point range to go alongside the contributions of players like LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. If that trio can all play well in this game, the Hornets could upset one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
Score Projection: Cavaliers 123 – Hornets 118 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Cavaliers 57%, Hornets 43% ATS PRO
I'm going to lay the points with the Cavs in this contest on Wednesday night. While the Cavs are banged up and have struggled against the spread this season, I project Cleveland winning by multiple possessions here. Expect the Cavs to hold on late and make their free throws to cover the spread in what should be a tight game until the final seconds in Charlotte.
