Tonight’s Eastern Conference battle between the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets is a clear mismatch on paper, with Boston entering this meeting as a heavy favorite. The Nets have endured a brutal season, most recently suffering a historic blowout loss to the New York Knicks. Brooklyn will try to turn things around against a Celtics team that is in contention in the Eastern Conference again this year. Before tip-off at Barclays Center, keep reading to get my Celtics vs Nets prediction.
Pick: | Celtics -8.5 ATS PRO |
Confidence: | 3/5 |
The Nets enter this game with significant concerns after a 120-66 loss at the hands of the New York Knicks that was the most lopsided victory in Knicks history. Brooklyn managed just 66 points while shooting under 30% from the field, a stark indicator of their offensive inefficiency. That defeat continued a rough stretch, as the Nets have lost at least 11 of their last 13 games, struggling on both ends of the floor and allowing opponents to score at a high rate. Their defensive rating sits near the bottom of the league, and rebounding and shooting woes have compounded their issues.
Boston has been more consistent, sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference going into this matchup. The team recently dropped a close game against the Detroit Pistons, but still boasts one of the more productive offenses in the league. Jaylen Brown is averaging close to 30 points a game and has been a driving force for the Celtics in the absence of Jayson Tatum, who remains out for the season as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury. Other Celtics contributors have stepped up as well, as the Celtics have exceeded expectations all year long.
Injuries are a factor going into this contest. Boston’s Josh Minott is out with an ankle issue, and Derrick White is being rested for this contest. Brooklyn’s injury picture isn't all that bad, with Haywood Highsmith's absence being the only one the Nets are dealing with right now.
Score Projection: Celtics 118 – Nets 102 ATS PRO
Win Probability: Celtics 78%, Nets 22% ATS PRO
The Celtics are a clear favorite going into this matchup and they should be able to get the job done again tonight. Brooklyn is playing some of the worst basketball in the NBA right now and that should continue to be the case here at Barclays Center. I'll lay the points with the Celtics in this Friday night Atlantic Division matchup.
