The Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks will meet in the NBA on Wednesday night. These teams are separated by one game in the Southeast Division standings and the winner will go into the All-Star break ahead of the loser in the Eastern Conference standings. Before this game tips off in Charlotte, you will find my breakdown below, including my Hawks vs Hornets prediction.

Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Atlanta Hawks @ Charlotte Hornets

Key Storylines
- Recent form: Both teams come off of losses in their most recent outings. The Hornets had a five-game winning streak snapped by the Detroit Pistons in their last outing, while the Hawks have lost two straight games to the Hornets and Timberwolves.
- Numbers that travel: Atlanta averages 117.5 points, powered by high-volume three-point shooting, but allows 118.4 points per game. Charlotte sits at 115.8 points per game with better defense than the Hawks by a wide margin.
- Key producers: Jalen Johnson is having a breakout year for Atlanta at 23.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. But he is questionable to compete in this game for the Hawks and that could really hurt the Hawks. Charlotte leans on Brandon Miller’s 20.4 points, while LaMelo Ball orchestrates the offense and Kon Knueppel provides some much-needed three-point shooting for a roster that is improving quickly.
- Both of these teams are in play-in tournament slots in the Eastern Conference going into this game. They are both just ahead of the 11th place Chicago Bulls and will try to head into the break with more of a cushion on Chicago with a win.

Final Thoughts
The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the best stories in the NBA this season, as they have exceeded expectations in a number of ways. Their defense has been much better than expected and they will try to use that to their advantage again in this game. I think the Hornets will slow down the Hawks enough to win and cover the number here, especially with the potential for Jalen Johnson to miss out on this matchup.
