Deiveson Figueiredo and Montel Jackson will fight in the UFC's bantamweight division on Saturday night in Rio. Both of these fighters come into this matchup ranked in the top 15 in this division and will try to get a statement win here. Before these bantamweights throw down on the octagon, continue reading to get my Deiveson Figueiredo vs Montel Jackson prediction.
Attribute | Deiveson Figueiredo | Montel Jackson |
|---|---|---|
Age | 37 | 33 |
Height | 5'5" | 5'10" |
Reach | 68" | 75" |
Stance | Orthodox | Southpaw |
Record | 24-5-1 | 15-2-0 |
Deiveson Figueiredo enters this bout with a wealth of experience. He's held the UFC Flyweight Championship and has gone up against top-tier competition in UFC. But recent losses to Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen have raised questions about whether his best days are behind him. At 37, Figueiredo may be experiencing a decline in reflexes and stamina, which could be exploited by a younger opponent like Jackson.
Montel Jackson is in the prime of his career at 33 years old. He possesses a significant height and reach advantage over Figueiredo. Jackson averages more significant strikes landed per minute and more takedowns than Figueiredo. He has won six straight fights and has not taken a loss in just over five years going into this co-main event matchup.
Montel Jackson's size, speed, and knockout power will present a massive challenge for Figueiredo. While Figueiredo's experience and aggression are assets, they may not be sufficient to overcome Jackson's physical advantages at this stage of Figueiredo's career. Even with Figueiredo fighting on home soil, I expect him to struggle with everything that Jackson brings to the table.
My best bet for this fight is for Jackson to win by knockout. He should make a statement by going into a hostile environment and winning emphatically. Expect Jackson to be ranked higher than 15th in the bantamweight division by the time this fight is over.
