UFC Fight Night on June 6 features a welterweight main event as former UFC champion Belal Muhammad meets rising Brazilian contender Gabriel Bonfim in a five-round bout at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. Muhammad enters the fight looking to halt a two-fight losing streak and reinsert himself into the title picture, while Bonfim has the opportunity to secure the biggest win of his career against a proven veteran. Here, I break down Belal Muhammad vs Gabriel Bonfim and make my prediction for the main event matchup.
Muhammad remains one of the most reliable fighters in the division. Even at 37, he continues to push a high work rate, mix wrestling with striking, and force opponents into uncomfortable positions along the fence. His recent losses came against elite competition, and there is a meaningful difference between facing championship-level opponents and taking on a prospect who has yet to prove himself over five rounds against someone with Muhammad’s experience. Muhammad enters the event ranked No. 5 at welterweight, while Bonfim sits just outside the top tier of contenders.
Bonfim is the more dangerous finisher. He owns an outstanding professional record, averages more takedowns than Muhammad, and carries a significant submission threat. His athleticism and explosiveness could create problems early. However, this matchup feels like a major step up in competition. Muhammad has built his career on neutralizing dangerous opponents, surviving difficult moments, and steadily taking control as fights progress. Over five rounds, his cardio, experience, and ability to bank rounds through pressure wrestling give him the clearer path to victory.
The first leg centers on Muhammad's proven ability to win rounds. His pressure style has historically translated well against opponents who rely on finishing opportunities. Bonfim is dangerous, but Muhammad's durability has been one of his defining traits throughout his UFC career. He has consistently shown the ability to remain competitive deep into fights against top-level opposition. I expect Muhammad to score multiple takedowns in this fight and to control this fight enough to win by decision.

Muhammad enters this contest in an unusual position. After reaching the top of the division and capturing UFC gold, he now finds himself attempting to stop a two-fight slide. Despite those setbacks, his overall body of work remains impressive. He has defeated elite opposition throughout his career and has repeatedly shown the ability to execute a disciplined game plan over 25 minutes. His style is based on pressure, cardio, wrestling, and consistency rather than highlight-reel finishes.
Bonfim represents the next generation of welterweight contenders. At 28 years old, he combines strong grappling with aggressive striking and owns one of the better finishing profiles in the division. His lone professional loss did little to slow his rise, and he has continued to build his standing with quality performances. The question entering Saturday is whether he can maintain that effectiveness against a veteran who rarely makes major mistakes.
Stylistically, the fight is intriguing because both men are capable wrestlers. Bonfim may have the edge in pure athleticism and submission danger, but Muhammad's chain wrestling, cage control, and experience in long fights could neutralize those strengths. If Bonfim finds an early finish, it will likely come through a scramble or submission sequence. If the bout reaches the championship rounds, the advantage shifts significantly toward Muhammad.
