The Kansas City Royals (79-79) and the Los Angeles Angels (71-87) will meet for the final game of their three-game series at Angel Stadium on Thursday. Both teams have been eliminated from postseason contention, but the Royals are playing to get above the .500 mark for the season and the Angels are playing for pride. Here, I break down this American League matchup and make my Royals vs Angels prediction.
Michael Lorenzen (6-11, 4.70 ERA) takes the mound for the Royals in this game. Despite a subpar win-loss record, Lorenzen has shown flashes of brilliance this season. His ability to limit hard contact and induce ground balls makes him a more reliable option for Kansas City in this matchup than what the Angels have to offer.
Mitch Farris (1-2, 6.52 ERA) will get the start for the Angels tonight. Farris has struggled in his brief major league tenure, and the Royals' offense could exploit his inconsistencies to their advantage.
The Royals are aiming to finish the season with a winning record, and a victory in this game would help them achieve that goal. But the Royals have lost two of their last three games and have to turn things around over the next four days to avoid a sub-.500 season. The Angels are looking to end their disappointing season on a positive note. They ended a two-game losing streak with their win over the Royals on Wednesday.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
Bobby Witt Jr. | Over 0.5 stolen bases |
Vinnie Pasquantino | Over 0.5 home runs |
Salvador Perez | Over 0.5 RBI |
This game doesn't have any meaning in terms of postseason positioning. But it is meaningful to both teams, who are looking to finish this season on a high note. As for the outcome of this matchup, I think that the Royals have a starting pitching advantage with Lorenzen on the bump tonight. I'll take the Royals to win this game and claim this series victory before moving onto their final series of the 2025 regular season.
