The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians will conclude their three-game series on Thursday at Progressive Field in Cleveland. With the Guardians having secured a 5-1 victory on Wednesday night, they now hold a one-game lead over the Tigers in the American League Central standings. Detroit will try to stop its current slide and get back into a tie with the guardians with a win tonight. Before the first pitch from Northeast Ohio, continue reading to get my Tigers vs Guardians prediction for tonight.
Detroit has yet to choose a starting pitcher for this contest. It is unclear if they will go with an opener out of the bullpen or if they will choose a spot starter to fill this place. Either way, the Tigers need their pitching staff to step up to help make up for the struggles the team has had offensively.
Parker Messick will take the mound for the Guardians in this contest. Messick is 3-0 on the season with a 2.08 ERA in 34.2 innings of work. He will try to shut down a struggling Tigers offense in this game to move the Guardians even closer to locking up the AL Central title.
The Detroit Tigers are in a tailspin late in the regular season. They have lost eight games in a row coming into tonight's action. They have not only relinquished a huge lead in the AL Central. They are are also barely holding onto the final Wild Card spot in the American League. Cleveland has won two games in a row and their September surge has led them to the top of the standings in this division.
Player | Prop |
|---|---|
José Ramírez | Over 0.5 hits |
George Valera | Over 0.5 total bases |
Riley Greene | Over 1.5 hits |
There is no scenario in which I will back the Detroit Tigers right now. They have been dismal at the plate and have not been getting enough out of their starting pitchers to justify betting them in a high-leverage spot like this. I'll take the Guardians to continue their winning ways and to move one step closer to stealing the AL Central title from a Tigers team that looked like they were going to win this division for most of the year.
