Rishabh Pant faces Delhi Capitals for the first time since they released him. KL Rahul walks out against the franchise he captained for years. LSG host DC at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday with a personal edge this fixture may have lacked in the past.
With both sides looking to make the playoffs after missing out in 2025, the bookies have this as a coin flip, but key absences help the value bettor in this spot.
Match | Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals |
|---|---|
Date | April 1, 2026 |
Format | T20 |
Venue | Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow |
Pitch Report | A relaid surface has transformed this venue. Now offers pace and bounce early before settling into a batter-friendly track. Average first-innings scores around 175-195. Slower balls and cutters remain effective. |
Weather | Warm and clear. No rain risk. Temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. Dew expected in the second innings. |
Toss Impact | Strong chasing bias. In IPL 2025, the team batting second won 6 of 8 matches here. Every captain winning the toss last season elected to bowl first. |
Pick: LSG +105
Confidence: 3 out of 5
LSG have built one of their most balanced squads since joining the IPL. The top order of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran could prove to be amongst the league's most dangerous.
Pooran was extraordinary in 2025, scoring over 500 runs at a strike rate close to 200 and clearing the ropes 40 times. Rishabh Pant at No. 4 adds a second match-winner, though his 2025 IPL form was underwhelming.
Mohammed Shami, traded from SRH, brings elite new-ball quality after 68 domestic wickets last season. Anrich Nortje adds express pace depth.
The significant concern is Wanindu Hasaranga, signed as LSG's quality spin option, who is likely to miss the opener and potentially the entire tournament after failing to clear Sri Lanka Cricket's mandatory fitness test following a T20 World Cup hamstring injury.
DC arrive with arguably their most talented squad yet, but are missing their most important bowler. Mitchell Starc confirmed he is recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries and will miss the early part of the season. Lungi Ngidi slots in as the overseas pace option.
The bowling still has quality. Kuldeep Yadav took 15 wickets in 2025 and is the standout spinner here, and Axar Patel's dual value gives DC tactical flexibility. KL Rahul opens with 539 runs from last season, Tristan Stubbs and Vipraj Nigam provide finishing firepower. The flaw is the lack of a genuine all-rounder beyond Axar, leaving DC's lower order slightly thin.
The head-to-head sits at DC 4, LSG 3 across 7 IPL meetings. DC have won 2 of 3 encounters at Ekana, which adds context to the value LSG offer at home.
LSG probable XI: Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, Abdul Samad, Ayush Badoni, Shahbaz Ahmed, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Shami, Anrich Nortje, Digvesh Rathi.
Impact sub: Mayank Yadav or Mohsin Khan.
With Hasaranga's availability in serious doubt, Digvesh Rathi carries the spin responsibilities. Shami and Nortje give the attack genuine bite at both ends.
DC probable XI: KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Auqib Nabi, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar.
Impact sub: T Natarajan or Dushmantha Chameera.
Without Starc, the pace attack lacks its X-factor. Kuldeep and Axar carry the bowling's top-end threat.
Win Probability: LSG 52%, DC 48%
Close to a coin flip on paper, and the head-to-head at Ekana actually favors DC. But Starc's absence, LSG's home advantage, and a toss-sensitive venue where batting second dominates make LSG the lean. Take them at +105 and look for Pooran as the highest ceiling pick on either side.
