Primary factor
Rajasthan need this win to lock up a playoff spot. Delhi's captain has publicly flagged next-season planning. Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal are the most explosive opening pair in the tournament, Archer and Bishnoi give RR a bowling attack that covers all phases, and the motivation gap at the business end of the season tends to matter.
Best bet: Rajasthan Royals moneyline. Delhi Capitals are hosting their last home game of the IPL 2026 season with nothing meaningful at stake. Axar Patel has already spoken publicly about planning for next year. RR need a win to secure their playoff spot. History says the side with more to play for wins this kind of late-season match more often than not.
The points table context makes this relatively clear. RR sit third or fourth on 14 points and need at least one more win to guarantee top-four. DC are effectively out of contention on 8 points with two games left - they would need to win both remaining matches and get considerable help from results elsewhere. That's not an impossible scenario, but it's not one Axar's dressing room appears to be planning around. The contrast in dressing-room energy is stark.
There is one genuine DC counter-argument: KL Rahul. He is well in the Orange Cap race with 476 runs at SR 180.3 and has been amongst the most consistently dangerous opening batters in the tournament. When he's in, DC's top order becomes a completely different proposition - he scored 75 against RR in Jaipur just a fortnight ago when DC chased 226 by seven wickets. That game is a direct reminder that this is a live match and not a walkover, but DC won it on the back of Rahul's exceptional individual performance rather than any collective team quality.

The single most lopsided statistic in this fixture is powerplay wickets: RR have taken 21 in the powerplay this season, more than any other team; DC have taken just 7, joint-fewest alongside KKR. Archer alone has 9 of RR's 21. He has dismissed KL Rahul before and Rahul's 180.3 SR is built on calculated aggression rather than recklessness, but against a bowler of Archer's quality at Arun Jaitley - a ground with decent early seam movement - DC's opening stand has a structural vulnerability.
Starc from the other end for DC is genuinely dangerous: he dismissed Sooryavanshi before the 15-year-old could get going in their Jaipur meeting and his left-arm pace tests that extraordinary eye against the angle. Sooryavanshi's SR of 229 against pace suggests that goes well as often as it goes badly. The Starc vs Sooryavanshi opening exchange is the most anticipated individual duel in this match.
Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in combination give DC their best bowling phase and it's where they've done most damage throughout the season. Axar has 8 wickets at economy 8.69, Kuldeep has been similarly effective on surfaces that offer turn.
For RR, Bishnoi's 10 wickets are almost all in the middle overs and his googly has troubled DC batters before. Tristan Stubbs against spin is the matchup to watch for DC batting - he's been DC's most consistent middle-order batter this season but has a well-documented vulnerability against wrist spin early in his innings. For RR with the bat through the middle, Jurel (296 runs SR 153) and Ferreira (the 47* in 14 balls against DC last time) give them depth and firepower if the top order sets a platform.
Ferreira at the death for RR is possibly the most dangerous impact option in the tournament. His ability to hit genuine yorkers for sixes has made him a match-winner in three games this season. Jadeja as a lower-order anchor option provides balance.
For DC at the death, David Miller has been a late-season acquisition who hasn't fully fired, and Ashutosh Sharma's cameos have been inconsistent. DC's death bowling through Natarajan and Starc is serviceable but has been expensive - Starc's economy of 10.53 reflects the carnage in several matches. Burger and Archer at the death for RR are markedly better than DC's equivalent options.
Arun Jaitley Stadium in 2026 has produced first innings scores in the 165-190 range consistently. The pitch slows through the middle overs and dew in the second innings can make defending targets difficult. Chasing teams have had a slight advantage here this season, which means both captains will want to bowl first at the toss.
Temperature will be around 33 degrees by match time with moderate humidity - warm but not extreme. The shorter square boundary dimensions at this ground slightly assist six-hitting but not to the extent of Dharamsala or the Wankhede.

Prop 1 (Top Bowler): Jofra Archer Top RR Bowler. He's taken 13 wickets this season at Arun Jaitley-style venues and his ability to target the top of the DC batting order is the matchup RR most need to win. DC have taken only 7 powerplay wickets all season - the joint-fewest in the competition - which suggests their batting gets away from bowlers early. Archer is one of the few bowlers who can change that. He dismissed Rahul in Jaipur and on a Delhi surface with early movement, his full-length pace is extremely difficult to play.
Prop 2 (Top Batter): KL Rahul Over 38.5 Runs. Orange Cap contender with 476 runs at SR 180.3. He plays his best cricket when DC need him most - that 75 in Jaipur chasing 226 came with the season on the line. Arun Jaitley is a ground where he has scored prolifically across his career. Even in a likely RR win, Rahul batting deep into the chase or posting a big platform total is the most probable individual batting outcome.
Prop 3 (Match Total): Under 345.5 Combined Runs. Arun Jaitley has averaged around 175-185 first innings this season, and both bowling attacks have the tools to keep totals in check. Archer, Burger, Axar, and Kuldeep are all disciplined enough to prevent 220+ scores. The dew-influenced second innings makes chases easier but doesn't massively inflate totals. A combined score of 330-345 is more realistic than 360+.

Best bet
RR Moneyline
RR need a win to lock up their playoff spot. DC's captain has publicly moved on to next season. RR have the best powerplay bowling attack in the competition with 21 wickets - three times DC's tally - and Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal at the top are the most explosive opening pair in the tournament. When motivation, squad quality, and powerplay edge all point the same way, back it.
Secondary bet
KL Rahul Top DC Batter
476 runs at SR 180.3, Orange Cap leader, scored 75 in Jaipur against this exact RR bowling attack two weeks ago. Even in a likely DC defeat, Rahul batting long is the most probable individual batting outcome on either side.
Confidence Motivation gap, powerplay dominance, squad depth all favour RR
The model gives RR a 62% win probability. The 38% for DC is almost entirely carried by Rahul - when he gets a big score, DC's middle order has enough firepower to reach competitive totals and their spin attack of Axar and Kuldeep is capable of restricting RR's middle order. DC actually won the reverse fixture in Jaipur by seven wickets, which is a reminder that the gap between these sides isn't insurmountable. The scenario where DC win: Starc removes Sooryavanshi early, Rahul bats through to 80+, and Kuldeep exploits slow-burn conditions in the middle overs to peg RR back under 170. It's a plausible path. It's just the less likely one when DC's dressing room has already mentally moved on.
What time does DC vs RR start on May 17?
Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals, Match 62 of IPL 2026, starts at 7:30 PM IST at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The toss takes place at 7:00 PM IST. This is DC's final home match of the IPL 2026 season.
Are Delhi Capitals still in the IPL 2026 playoffs race?
DC are mathematically alive but effectively out of contention. They have 8 points from 12 games and would need to win both remaining fixtures while relying on a near-perfect set of results elsewhere. Captain Axar Patel has publicly acknowledged the team is already planning for next season.
What is the head-to-head record between DC and RR in the IPL?
Delhi Capitals lead the all-time head-to-head 16-15 across 31 IPL meetings. DC won the reverse fixture in Jaipur on May 1, 2026, by seven wickets, with KL Rahul scoring 75 and Pathum Nissanka making 62 as DC chased 226.
What is the pitch like at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi?
Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2026 has produced first innings scores in the 165-190 range. The pitch slows through the middle overs and dew in the evening second innings assists chasing teams, giving a slight advantage to the side batting second. Both captains are expected to bowl first at the toss. The boundaries are moderately sized.
Who are the key players to watch in DC vs RR?
KL Rahul. An Orange Cap contender with 476 runs at SR 180.3, and he scored 75 against this exact RR bowling attack in Jaipur. Jofra Archer is the bowling counter: 13 wickets this season with 9 of RR's tournament-leading 21 powerplay wickets. The Starc vs Sooryavanshi opening exchange is the most compelling individual duel - the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi strikes at 229 against pace and Starc's left-arm angle creates a unique tactical battle.
