The Saturday night game between the Utah Utes (7‑2) and Baylor Bears (5‑4) is a key Big 12 showdown with meaningful implications. Utah travels to Waco to take on Baylor at McLane Stadium, looking to improve their chances of locking up an at-large bid in the College Football Playoff while staying in the Big 12 title race. Before kickoff from Waco, continue reading to get my Utah vs Baylor prediction.
Utah is coming into this contest after a dominant 45‑14 win over Cincinnati, registering nearly 500 total yards. Baylor got a win over UCF in their last game, snapping a two-game losing streak and moving to within one win of bowl eligibility. Both of these teams played well on defense in their last game and a repeat performance would be important to them achieving their goals for the remainder of this season.
Utah is 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12 going into this contest. They trail Texas Tech at the top of the Big 12 standings by 1.5 games, with several teams between them. Utah needs to keep winning and get some help if they want to work their way up the ladder and make it to the conference championship game for a chance at a playoff auto-bid.
Utah signal‑caller Devon Dampier has thrown for 1,588 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions this season. He has also rushed for 520 yards and 5 touchdowns. His dual‑threat capabilities give Utah an offense that has been better than it's been in recent years. Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson has thrown for 2,780 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. His passing talent is immense and Baylor needs to score in bunches to make up for its suspect defense.
Score Projection: Utah 34 – Baylor 21
Win Probability: Utah 73%, Baylor 27%
I think that Utah will get a win in this game to keep its hopes alive in the Big 12 title race. But my best bet for this contest is for the under to cash in Waco. Utah's defense will slow down the passing attack of the Bears, while the Utes will move the ball effectively on the ground and eat away at the clock. This game will stay under 60 points and the Utes should be the winners when all is said and done.
