The South Carolina Gamecocks (3‑5, 1‑5 SEC) will take on the Ole Miss Rebels (7‑1, 4‑1 SEC) on Saturday night. The Rebels are in the thick of College Football Playoff race and they passed a huge road test last week. They will try to build on that performance with a win at home as a heavy favorite against the Gamecocks. Before kickoff from Oxford, continue reading to get my South Carolina vs Ole Miss prediction.
Ole Miss is making a sustained push toward the College Football Playoff. They are 7-1 and got a signature win over a ranked Oklahoma team on the road this past week. As long as they keep winning, they will end up in the playoff after the regular season concludes. Transfer quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy have been performing at a high level. Chambliss proved himself against a very good Oklahoma defense last week and will try to build on that performance in this game.
South Carolina enters this contest at 3-5 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. They average just 20.4 points per game (127th nationally) and they need to score more if they want to keep up with the Rebels in this contest. Their offense averages 309 yards per game (120th nationally). This is going to be a very difficult test for them on the road against one of college football's best teams.
Trinidad Chambliss of Ole Miss has thrown for 1,864 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception. He has emerged as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate and will try to solidify that candidacy with a strong showing here. South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers has thrown for 1,356 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has to play at his absolute best for the Gamecocks to have a shot here.
Score Projection: Ole Miss 34 – South Carolina 17
Win Probability: Ole Miss 78%, South Carolina 22%
Ole Miss should win this game convincingly on their home turf. The Rebels have proven that their offense can score on anyone just about anywhere with Trinidad Chambliss leading them. I'll lay the points with Ole Miss here as they should protect their top 10 ranking with a convincing victory against an overmatched Gamecocks squad.
