The Sam Houston Bearkats (0-7) will face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (4-3) on Friday night in Conference USA action. Sam Houston is still hunting for its first win of the season and arrives in Ruston struggling mightily. Louisiana Tech gets a chance to rebound at home after dropping two games in a row themselves. Before kickoff in this college football matchup, continue reading to get my Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech prediction.
Sam Houston’s season has been a struggle on both sides of the ball. They are averaging just 17 points per game and surrendering 38.9 points per outing. Their offensive production is among the worst in the country and their defense ranks near the bottom of FBS in yards allowed and points allowed. Louisiana Tech’s defense has been a strength, allowing only 18.7 points per game. Sam Houston’s inability to move the ball or to stop opponents consistently sets the stage for a one-sided outcome in this contest.
But Louisiana Tech comes into this game struggling as well. They have dropped back-to-back games to Kennesaw State and Western Kentucky. Those are two of the best teams in Conference USA and there is certainly no shame in losing to them. But the Bulldogs need to take advantage of this opportunity and get back into the win column.
Louisiana Tech signal-caller Blake Baker has passed for 989 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions this season. He threw for 340 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the loss to Western Kentucky in their last game. Sam Houston’s quarterback is Hunter Watson. Watson has thrown four touchdown passes and no interceptions over his last two games. But that hasn't been enough for his team to win yet this season.
Score Projection: Louisiana Tech 38 – Sam Houston 13
Win Probability: Louisiana Tech 80%, Sam Houston 20%
Louisiana Tech shouldn't have much of a problem getting back into the win column here. But instead of laying a ton of points with the Bulldogs, I recommend taking the over in this matchup. The porous defense of Sam Houston will allow Louisiana Tech to put a big number on the scoreboard and the Bearkats will do just enough with their offense to push this game over the number in Ruston.
