The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (2‑6, 1‑3 Sun Belt) will travel to face the South Alabama Jaguars (2‑6, 1‑3 Sun Belt) on Saturday. The two teams have identical records, but the Jaguars have home-field advantage and are slight favorites for this game. Here, I break down this matchup in the Sun Belt Conference and make my Louisiana vs South Alabama prediction in the betting markets.
Both teams enter this game with 2‑6 records and 1‑3 records in the Sun Belt. South Alabama snapped a prolonged losing streak with a 38‑31 road win over the Georgia State Panthers, while Louisiana suffered a 35‑23 defeat against the Troy Trojans. The Jaguars are modest favorites at home. But both of these teams have struggled immensely this season and will try to take advantage of this opportunity to get a win over a struggling opponent.
South Alabama QB Bishop Davenport has thrown for 1,461 yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. He threw for 280 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions last week against Georgia State. Davenport will aim for a similar performance in this contest at home.
Lunch Winfield of the Ragin' Cajuns has had a rough season at quarterback. Winfield has five touchdown passes and four interceptions on the year. He isn't asked to put the ball in the air a ton, but needs to be more effective when called upon by his team.
Score Projection: South Alabama 34 – Louisiana 23
Win Probability: South Alabama: 63%, Louisiana: 37%
There are plenty of games that are better for wagering than this one between South Alabama and Louisiana. But if I had to take a side in this contest, I'd lay the points with South Alabama. They appear to have a little more upside in their passing game and that should help them to get a second straight victory in this contest. I'll lay the points with the Jaguars in a game they desperately need to avoid losing their chance at bowl eligibility.
