The FIU Panthers and UConn Huskies will face one another in college football on Saturday. The Huskies are home favorites as they look to stay above the .500 mark for the season with a win. But FIU has a chance to get above .500 with a win of their own and will try to take down the Huskies. Here, I take a closer look at this contest and give you my FIU vs UConn prediction for this weekend's game.
UConn's offense has shown flashes throughout this season. But they have lacked the kind of consistency you'd like to see from them. Running back Cam Edwards is battling a hip injury but has been effective with 557 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Wide receiver Skyler Bell has been a reliable target, accumulating 499 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Head coach Jim Mora emphasizes the need for a complete, cohesive team performance across offense, defense, and special teams to secure victories. Despite back-to-back wins, Mora has urged his team to play more consistently, especially after narrowly escaping against Buffalo 20-17 in their last outing.
Florida International enters this game with a balanced offensive attack. Quarterback Keyone Jenkins has not put up flashy numbers. But he has been fine and the Panthers' rushing game averages 187 yards per game. Running back Kejon Owens has been a key contributor scoring four touchdowns on the ground. FIU's offense has the potential to put up points, but they will need to execute effectively against a solid UConn defense.
Joe Fagnano's leadership and ability to manage the game will be crucial for UConn's success. His dual-threat capability, with over 150 rushing yards this season, adds an extra dimension to the Huskies' offense. He has 1,201 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Jenkins' performance will be pivotal for FIU. He has thrown for 701 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. If Jenkins can establish a rhythm and connect with his playmakers, FIU has the potential to keep the game competitive.
Score Projection: UConn 31 – Florida International 20
Win Probability: UConn 70%, Florida International 30%
UConn should be able to win this game and cover the spread at home on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies have moved the ball effectively through the air, which should come in handy during obvious passing situations again here. I'll go wtih UConn to win this game by double-digits at home and improve to 3-0 at home on the season.
