- Baylor comes in at 1-0 after a 96-81 opening win over UT Rio Grande Valley. But that was a cupcake game against a vastly inferior opponent and we will learn a lot more about Baylor as a team here. Washington is 2-0 after wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Denver. The Huskies look improved from what we've seen in recent years, but this is their first road test of the season.
- Both programs are in something of a transition period. Baylor lost their entire roster from the previous year and reloaded via transfer additions and incoming freshmen. Washington likewise underwent major changes and returns just a small percentage of last season’s minutes and scoring. Both teams have looked good amid all of those changes, but this is the first power conference test for both teams.
- Defensive consistency is a question for both sides. Washington allowed 75.5 points per game last season, which was not impressive at all nationally. Baylor allowed 69.8 points per game, so they were better but still not elite defensively. The team that can clamp down defensively in this contest will have a great chance to win here.
