The NCAA Tournament continues Sunday with a second-round clash between Utah State and Arizona. The Aggies arrive with confidence after knocking off Villanova, while Arizona looks every bit like a national title contender following a dominant opening-round performance. Oddsmakers have installed Arizona as a sizable favorite, but Utah State’s efficient offense and disruptive defensive style could keep this Utah State vs Arizona game closer than expected.
Arizona enters this game with a 33-2 record and has been one of the most consistent teams in the country all season. The Wildcats cruised in their first-round game, showcasing elite scoring ability and defensive efficiency. Their size advantage inside and strong two-point defense have been major factors in their success.
Utah State, 29-6 on the year, pulled off an impressive win over Villanova to reach this stage. The Aggies are one of the more productive offensive teams nationally, averaging over 82 points per game. Their system relies heavily on quick ball movement, spacing, and creating turnovers that lead to easy transition opportunities.
The biggest question is whether Utah State can dictate tempo. Arizona is comfortable playing fast, but they also excel in half-court execution, where their size becomes overwhelming. If Utah State can speed things up and force mistakes, they have a path to staying within the number.

Watch our 60-second video summary for the expert's take.
Stat | Utah State | Arizona |
|---|---|---|
Points per game | 82.6 | 86.3 |
Points allowed per game | 70.5 | 68.5 |
Team Field Goal % | 50% | 50% |
Rebounds per game | 34.7 | 42.8 |
Assists per game | 17.7 | 16.9 |
Arizona’s blend of size, efficiency, and depth is difficult to overlook in this spot. The Wildcats have multiple scoring options, defend at a high level, and can control the glass, which limits second-chance opportunities for opponents. Utah State’s offense is strong enough to generate points, but sustaining that efficiency against Arizona’s defense for 40 minutes is a major ask. I'll lay the points with Arizona in this matchup from San Diego, as they should make it to the Sweet 16 with relative ease.
