Key Storylines
- UConn has ripped off 18 straight wins and leads the Big East at 12-0, powered by a defense allowing 63.8 points per game and an offense that shares the basketball with a top-15 assist rate.
- St. John’s has won eight in a row and now sits at 10-1 in league play. Rick Pitino’s group has been thriving in close games and owns an 84.6 points per game scoring average that shows they can stretch defenses.
- Star power is balanced on both sides. UConn’s core features Solo Ball as leading scorer, Tarris Reed Jr. on the glass, and Silas Demary Jr. as a two-way guard who sets the table for others. St. John’s is led by Zuby Ejiofor up front, while Bryce Hopkins has delivered key scoring blitzes on the wing.
- UConn is 7-0 away from home this season and 22-1 overall, while St. John’s is 10-2 at home with a growing edge at MSG. The atmosphere at the Garden will be electric in this contest, with both teams getting plenty of support in this part of the country.
- Personnel notes to monitor: St. John’s depth at center remains thinned with Handje Tamba listed out recently, while UConn’s frontcourt has surged behind Reed’s rim protection and second-chance points since his return.

Final Thoughts
This is a toss-up of a game for me, as both teams are playing at an elite level and have game-changing players who can turn this one in their favor. I lean slightly toward St. John's covering the spread here, but bettors may want to look elsewhere on the board on Friday night if they are looking for real value in the college basketball betting markets.
