The UConn Huskies and BYU Cougars will meet in a top 10 matchup in college basketball on Saturday night. This is a neutral-site game, but UConn will have the bulk of the crowd support in Boston. Before tip-off at TD Garden, continue reading to find my breakdown for this game, including my UConn vs BYU prediction for Saturday's matchup.
This is a heavyweight non-conference test for both squads. UConn is ranked third in the country and brings one of the most efficient offenses in the country into this game. The Huskies are averaging 92.7 points per game early in the season. Their production has been spread across a deep roster, with Solo Ball, Alex Karaban, and Tarris Reed Jr. anchoring the group.
BYU’s star power lies in freshman AJ Dybantsa, who is averaging 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Richie Saunders is leading the team with 20.3 points per game and is knocking down threes at a high rate. The question will be whether the Cougars can continue to produce at a high level offensively against the toughest opponent they have faced by a massive margin.
This is the first game that isn't a true home game for both of these teams this season. UConn will likely have an easier time adjusting to being away from Connecticut, as they are still going to have a friendly crowd in New England. Still, it will be interesting to see how this situation impacts both teams.
Score Projection: UConn 83 – BYU 75
Win Probability: UConn 67%, BYU 33%
We are going to learn a lot about UConn and BYU in this game. But I think that UConn has the advantage in this matchup from Boston. The Huskies will have as close to a home game as you can have at a neutral site in this matchup. That should help them to create some separation down the stretch, as UConn should improve to 4-0 and cover the number along the way.
