The Texas Longhorns and Auburn Tigers will meet in an SEC matchup in college basketball on Wednesday night. These teams are both within one game of the .500 mark in conference play in the SEC this season and games like this one could end up mattering a lot when evaluating the candidacy of teams for the NCAA Tournament in March. I have broken this game down from all angles below, and I've got you covered with my Texas vs Auburn prediction.
Our Texas vs Auburn Pick
Pick: Auburn -6.5
Confidence: 3/5
Game Snapshot
- Matchup: Texas Longhorns @ Auburn Tigers
- Date & Time: January 28, 2026, 7:00 PM ET
- Venue: Neville Arena, Auburn, Alabama
- Broadcast: ESPN2
Key Storylines
- Auburn is sitting at 13-7 overall and 4-3 in SEC play, riding a three-game league winning streak heading into this contest. The Tigers have shown improved defensive efficiency over that span, including holding three straight opponents under 70 points. Auburn’s Keyshawn Hall has been a focal point of the offense, averaging just over 20 points and pulling down a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. The Tigers got an upset win over Florida over the weekend in their last outing and they will try to build on that here.
- Texas enters this game 12-8 overall and 3-4 in conference action. The Longhorns have shown offensive firepower at times, most recently earning a decisive victory over Georgia that featured efficient shooting and balanced scoring from several starters. Dailyn Swain leads Texas in scoring, rebounding, and assists. He will need support from players like Matas Vokietaitis, Tramon Mark, and Jordan Pope if they want to get a win on the road and end Auburn's winning streak.
- The SEC is one of the best college basketball conferences this season. But a game like this one could still be huge for NCAA Tournament positioning. Even in a league as tough as the SEC, it could be hard getting a tournament spot with a losing record in conference play. A win here would be a huge step toward avoiding a losing conference record.
Head-to-Head & Betting Trends
- Auburn holds a 1-0 record all-time over Texas, defeating the Longhorns in Austin last season.
- Texas is 11-8 against the spread going into this contest.
- Auburn enters this matchup with a 12-8 record against the spread.
- The Longhorns have gone over the total in 11 of their first 19 games.
- Auburn is 12-8 to the over heading into Wednesday night.
Texas vs Auburn Model Projection
Score Projection: Texas 78 – Auburn 87
Win Probability: Texas 35%, Auburn 65%
Final Thoughts
This SEC showdown should go Auburn's way and the Tigers should cover the spread on their home floor. While Texas’ offensive talent and recent wins over ranked opponents highlight its potential, Auburn’s momentum and ability to control tempo could be decisive. I think the Tigers will win this game by close to 10 points and that they will get a fourth consecutive victory when the final buzzer sounds on Wednesday night.
