The North Texas Mean Green will visit the Oregon State Beavers on Wednesday night at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis. Both of these teams are undefeated to start the season and will look to pick up an impressive non-conference win in this matchup. Here, I analyze both teams heading into this game and give you my North Texas vs Oregon State prediction in college basketball.
North Texas enters the contest off to a perfect 3-0 start. They are averaging 77.3 points per game and allowing just 56.3 points per game. Guard Je'Shawn Stevenson is putting up 14.7 points per outing to lead the Mean Green. Their defensive rating sits inside the top 50 in the country according to KenPom and they will try to put forth another defensive masterclass here.
Oregon State sits at 2-0 this season and has won their first two games by a combined five points. Guard Josiah Lake II is averaging 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game to lead the Beavers early on. The Beavers will be very comfortable playing North Texas' style of basketball. Both of these teams rank among the 25 slowest teams according to KenPom's adjusted tempo metrics and we should see a real slog between these teams on the floor.
It is worth noting that this is the first road game of the season for North Texas. They will have to prove that their defense is capable of traveling into hostile environments and getting the job done if they want to keep their unblemished record after tonight.
Score Projection: North Texas 66 – Oregon State 65
Win Probability: North Texas 50%, Oregon State 50%
This game is close to a coin flip as far as I'm concerned. Both teams are going to play at a slow pace and are going to prioritize getting defensive stops over everything else. I'll take the under as my top play for this matchup, as we should see some pretty ugly offensive basketball thanks to a couple of solid defenses taking the floor in this one.
