Key Storylines
- Form check: Michigan State enters 18-2 and 8-1 in league play, with a six-game winning streak coming into Tuesday night. Rutgers sits 9-11 and 2-7 in conference games after an 82-59 loss to Indiana, a night defined by poor perimeter defense and cold shooting. The Scarlet Knights have lost three straight games coming into this one.
- Top producers: MSU’s Jeremy Fears Jr. leads the Spartans' balanced scoring at 13.4 points per game, while big man Jaxon Kohler anchors the glass with 9.6 rebounds per contest. Rutgers counters with Tariq Francis at 15.9 points per game as the primary creator. Rutgers has had no shortage of star power over the last couple of seasons, but Francis needs help from others for any of that to matter here.
- Defense travels: MSU allows 62.8 points per game so far this season. Playing on the road in conference play is never easy, especially in a power conference like the Big Ten. But Michigan State's defense will give them every opportunity to get a win here.
- Home edge: Rutgers is tougher at Jersey Mike’s Arena than they are on the road. The Scarlet Knights are 8-4 at home so far this year, and the crowd impact has historically dragged opponents into half-court games where the Knights can grind out stops and threaten upsets.

Final Thoughts
Michigan State will probably be able to take care of business and pick up a win on the road over Rutgers on Tuesday night. With that said, I don't think this game will be quite as straightforward as the oddsmakers are implying. I'll take the points with Rutgers here, as they will play their typical methodical style of basketball and keep the possession count relatively low to stay within 10 points or so.
