Houston (12-1) enters this showdown with great momentum, having won six games in a row and secured a top-ten ranking nationally. The Cougars are transitioning smoothly into Big 12 competition, led by multiple scoring threats, including Emanuel Sharp and guards Kingston Flemings and Milos Uzan. Houston also boasts one of the nation’s stingiest defenses, giving up 60 points per game while forcing turnovers at an elite clip.
For Houston, games like this one are important for their future. Winning games like this one will help the Cougars to secure a better seed in the NCAA Tournament and give them an easier path as they look to make another Final Four run.
Cincinnati (8-5) has had an up-and-down season and now faces a tough conference opener. The Bearcats come off a convincing win over Lipscomb in their last outing, paced by Jizzle James’ return to starter status. Cincinnati’s defense ranks well in limiting scoring, but its shooting and free-throw percentages lag behind Houston’s efficiency. Cincinnati's only impressive win this season came against Dayton, while they stumbled against every power conference team they faced early in the year. This game at home against an elite Houston team is another chance for the Bearcats to prove themselves.
Score Projection: Houston 78 – Cincinnati 66
Win Probability: Houston 69%, Cincinnati 31%
I am going to lay the points with the Houston Cougars on the road in their first Big 12 game of the season. The defense of the Cougars should be too much for James and the Bearcats to handle, while Houston should be able to do enough offensively to create some separation and win this contest by double-digits. Look for the Cougars to protect their spot in the top 10 with a win in Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon.
