Key Storylines
- Marquette’s lead guy: Chase Ross is carrying a heavy offensive load for Marquette. He dropped 31 points in Marquette’s recent 89–82 home loss to Maryland. His shooting and playmaking are vital for the Golden Eagles. He’s averaging around 20.8 points per game this season and he will try to lead his team to a win in this matchup.
- Rebound presence: Marquette is strong on the boards, with Ben Gold anchoring the frontcourt. He is pulling down 8.4 rebounds per game this season and he will try to help Marquette control the glass tonight as well.
- Dayton’s emerging core: Dayton is coming off a solid bounce-back after a loss at Cincinnati. They got a convincing 91–82 home win over Bethune-Cookman. Guard Javon Bennett is a key piece for them, and big man Amael L’Etang provides size and rim presence. Dayton has struggled from deep so far this year and will try to light it up from long-distance to upset Marquette.
- Motivation factor: Dayton beat Marquette last season on their home floor, so they know they can hang with the Golden Eagles. Marquette will want to respond after losing to Dayton last year and dropping two of their last three games.

Final Thoughts
Marquette is a deserved favorite on their home floor here. But I'm expecting Dayton to cover the number as an underdog on the road. The Flyers are shooting the basketball more efficiently from the floor and that should help them to hang around in this game between two teams that have their sights set on building a resume for March.
