The Creighton Bluejays travel to Cincinnati on Wednesday to open Big East conference competition against the Xavier Musketeers. Creighton enters with a 5-5 record and a need for consistency after dropping its last two games, while Xavier has built momentum with an 8-3 mark and a strong home resume. Before tip-off in the opener of the Big East season for both of these teams, continue reading to find my Creighton vs Xavier prediction.

Coming out of non-conference play, Xavier has some clear advantages. They enter conference play with a 7-1 record at home and a five-game winning streak that sets a positive tone entering Big East play. The Musketeers’ offense is averaging 78.4 points per game. Their effectiveness stems from a mix of inside presence and perimeter scoring, led by Tre Carroll. Carroll is averaging 16.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The Musketeers appear more cohesive under first-year head coach Richard Pitino.
Meanwhile, Creighton arrives with a .500 record and a three-game road losing streak that includes losses to quality opponents like the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Bluejays have shown offensive potential, shooting well from beyond the arc, but inconsistency and defensive lapses have hindered their efforts. Without star big man Ryan Kalkbrenner from last season, now in the NBA, Creighton’s roster is still finding its identity in this campaign.
Score Projection: Xavier 78 – Creighton 74
Win Probability: Xavier 62%, Creighton 38%
This is a huge game for both of these teams, as they look to start their Big East seasons off on the right foot. Xavier's expectations were mixed going into this season, but they have looked very good early in the year. I'm going to lay the points with Xavier in this matchup, as they should continue their winning ways at home and get a sixth straight victory while opening their Big East season on the right foot.
