On Monday, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats travel to take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in SWAC play. These are the top two teams in the SWAC standings going into this matchup and this game if a chance for both teams to make a statement against one another. Here, I break down this important contest between conference rivals and make my Bethune-Cookman vs Alabama A&M prediction in the betting markets.
Pick: Bethune-Cookman -1.5 ATS PRO
Confidence: ★★★☆☆
Bethune-Cookman is riding positive energy after winning 7 of its 8 games in conference play and entering this contest in first place in the SWAC standings. Guard Jakobi Heady has been the team’s leading scorer, averaging 17.3 points per game and leading a Wildcats offense that scores 74.3 points per game. The Wildcats also have a solid inside presence in Doctor Bradley and consistent production from Arterio Morris and Daniel Rouzan. Bethune-Cookman’s effective field goal percentage has been strong, and the Wildcats have shown they can limit turnovers and get defensive stops in key moments.
Alabama A&M has also been competitive in the SWAC, having just beaten Florida A&M 72-65 with Koron Davis leading the way with 22 points. The Bulldogs have been a strong home team, with a 9-2 record at the A&M Events Center, giving them an edge in front of their home crowd. Kintavious Dozier provides scoring with his 16.1 points per game leading the team, while senior forward PJ Eason brings rebounding and interior strength. The Bulldogs are averaging just over 71 points per game, slightly below the pace of Bethune-Cookman, but their home court advantage should keep them in this game throughout.
Both teams enter this game on winning streaks. The Wildcats have won five straight games going into Monday night, while the Bulldogs have won two games in a row. Only one of those winning streaks can survive this contest in the SWAC.
Score Projection: Bethune-Cookman 75 – Alabama A&M 71
Win Probability: Bethune-Cookman 54%, Alabama A&M 46%
This SWAC contest should be a close one, but I'm going to go with Bethune-Cookman to cover the number as a slight favorite on the road. The Wildcats have been the class of the SWAC so far this season and they have won two of their last three conference road games by double-digits. While this shouldn't be another double-digit victory for BCU, they will do enough to get the win regardless.
