The UAlbany Great Danes will look to defend their Albany Cup crown in a Friday night game against the Siena Saints. This crosstown rivalry will be reignited at MVP Arena in Albany, where UAlbany hopes to get its first win over a Division I opponent this season at the expense of a Siena team that has dropped two straight. I've covered both of these programs and cannot wait to see this game unfold. Continue reading to get my UAlbany vs Siena prediction for Friday night.
The rivalry between UAlbany and Siena stretches back decades, though in recent years Albany has had more success. Over the past 10 meetings, UAlbany holds a 7–3 edge. Historically, Siena leads the overall series, but the Great Danes have been dominant in this more recent stretch.
UAlbany is 0-3 against the spread in their three games against Division I opponents this year. They have gone under the total in all three of those games. Siena is 3-1 against the spread this season and has stayed under the total in three of their four outings thus far.
Score Projection: UAlbany 69 – Siena 77
Win Probability: Siena 65%, UAlbany 35%
College basketball is better when this rivalry game takes place, even if both teams have redesigned their mascots to look like they have been diagnosed with depression. The Great Danes have performed well in this game in recent years. But UAlbany has looked horrible against Division I competition so far this year. I think Siena wins this game, but the Great Danes cover the spread as they rise to the challenge and keep this one competitive with the Albany Cup on the line.
