Another day with just two games on the schedule. The best of the two is Phoenix at Connecticut, so we’ll look at that one.
Phoenix at Connecticut Betting Odds
Connecticut is favored by 1.5 points at William Hill and the total on the game is 163.5. The Sun are -125 on the moneyline.
Phoenix Mercury
The Mercury came away with a tough win over the Minnesota Lynx to begin the season on Thursday, winning 77-75 on a Diana Turasi 3-pointer with a couple of seconds left in a game that saw the Mercury struggle from long range, going just 4 of 20 for the game. The Mercury had five players in double figures in a well-balanced attack, but did only get five points from the bench in the game.
Phoenix held Minnesota to 40.3% shooting for the game and forced 14 turnovers, so they did enough there to come away with the victory.
Connecticut Sun
The Sun were also top-heavy in scoring, with the big two of DeWanna Bonner and Jonquel Jones combining for 47 of the team’s 78 points. They were a combined 16 for 27 from the field, which means the rest of the team was 11 for 34. Bonner and Jones were 6 of 11 from 3-point range, with the rest of the team going 4 for 12 from long range.
The Sun are traditionally one of the better home teams in the league, going 43-14 between 2017 and 2019. You really can’t count last season’s home games, as they were all played in Bradenton, Florida.
Phoenix Mercury at Connecticut Sun Pick
This should be a great game between two very good teams. I have Phoenix winning this one 81-80, but it’s never easy to go against the Sun at home in this type of situation. The Sun are 5-1 as a home favorite of 2.5 points or less dating back to 2016, but excluding the 2020 season. Since I have this one at 161 points, will go ahead and take a shot on the under 163.5.
