Wings vs Sun Game 2 Betting Pick
This game will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena at 12:00 PM ET on Sunday, August 21, 2022.
The Connecticut Sun took a 1-0 lead over the Dallas Wings in their first round WNBA playoff series on Thursday. The short-handed Wings fell behind early and could not recover against the stout defense of the Sun. In our WNBA picks for the first round of the playoffs, we look at Wings vs Sun Game 2, as the Sun look to close out the Wings while the Wings look to force a Game 3.
Why Bet The Sun:
✅ The Wings’ biggest advantage in most games was neutralized in Game 1 of this series. The size of Teaira McCowan was not enough to overcome the physicality from multiple frontcourt players of Connecticut. McCowan scored just seven points on 2/6 shooting in Thursday’s series opener, and will continue to have trouble inside against the pair of Joneses and Alyssa Thomas.
✅ Both teams made just five three-point shots in Game 1, but the Sun are so much better from two-point range than the Wings. Connecticut shot 56% from two-point range on Thursday, while the Wings shot 49% from inside the arc. The advantage the Sun have around the basket and from the mid-range with Courtney Williams is going to create another lopsided score.

✅ Arike Ogunbowale will remain out for this game for the Wings. As we mentioned ahead of Game 1, this will force too much of the scoring load onto Marina Mabrey. That did not work out well for the Wings, as Mabrey shot 5/13 from the field on Thursday. She will struggle to find enough success to keep the Wings in this game as well, as the Sun will end Dallas’ season.
Dallas Wings
The Dallas Wings had a rough day offensively on Thursday night against the Connecticut Sun. They scored just 68 points in the first game of this series, shooting 41% from the field in their losing effort. Even the return of Satou Sabally did not help the Wings, as they lost by 25 points and face elimination in Game 2 of this series as a result.
In Game 2, the Wings are going to need to heat up from three-point range to neutralize the advantage the Sun have inside of the arc. Marina Mabrey, Allisha Gray, and Ty Harris will be especially important from the perimeter. If they cannot be better than the combined 3/11 mark they posted from long range on Thursday, the Wings’ season will be over after a first round sweep.
Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun played a near-flawless second half to blow out the Dallas Wings in Game 1 of their WNBA playoffs. Curt Miller’s team outscored the Wings by 15 in the final 20 minutes of that game, holding Dallas to just 31 points in those 20 minutes. In Game 2, the Sun will look for a similar level of success to make it to the semifinal round.
Balanced scoring was the key to Connecticut’s success in the first game of this series. They had seven players score eight or more points in Game 1, including all five of their starters. While last year’s league MVP Jonquel Jones commands plenty of attention, there is not one player in the Sun’s starting five that can be left alone when the Sun have the basketball.
