Sky vs Sun Betting Pick
This game will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, July 31, 2022.
The Chicago Sky have the best record in the WNBA coming into Sunday against the Connecticut Sun. But they are missing one of the top players in the league for this top-three clash. In our WNBA picks for Sunday afternoon, we look at Sky vs Sun in a game we could see again in the WNBA playoffs.
Why Bet The Sun:
✅ The Chicago Sky are set to be without Candace Parker for the second straight game. She is out due to a non-COVID illness, just as she was against the Liberty on Friday. Without Parker, the Sky are not as well-equipped to handle the size and physicality of the Sun. Parker averaged 21.5 points in two previous meetings with the Sun this season, and her absence will be huge here.
✅ Connecticut has the longest active win streak in the WNBA. They have won four straight games, including their last game at home against the Seattle Storm. The crowd was split pretty evenly for that game given that Breanna Stewart, Sue Bird, and Tina Charles all played at UConn. But the Sun managed to overcome that to win at home. They will extend their home win streak here with more robust crowd support in their favor.

✅ The Sun have the best net rating in the WNBA, with the Sky trailing them even when Candace Parker is available. Connecticut has the defense necessary to slow down Courtney Vandersloot and Emma Meesseman here, especially without Parker to deal with. Look for the Sun to prove they are just as good as the Sky at home, regardless of what the records say.
Chicago Sky
It was a close game throughout, but the Chicago Sky managed to win their last game at home against the New York Liberty. With Candace Parker out due to a non-COVID illness, it was the guards of the Sky that carried them to victory. Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, and Kahleah Copper combined for 55 points to pace the Sky, and all three will need to produce like that again here.
The question for the Sky is what their frontcourt can give them against a Sun frontcourt with multiple All-Stars in it. Emma Meesseman and Azura Stevens combined for 20 points against the Liberty on Friday. But points could be even harder to come by when matched up against the trio of Jonquel Jones, Brionna Jones, and Alyssa Thomas.
Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun won in a tough spot on Thursday night against the Seattle Storm. At home, much of the crowd was supporting former UConn Huskies that played for the Storm, including Sue Bird in her final regular season game in Connecticut. Here, the Sun will have a much larger share of the crowd support, especially without Candace Parker for fans to appreciate.
For the Sun, the key to this game will be to shut down the aforementioned guard trio of Chicago. If the Sun can do that and limit their turnovers, they could have an easy afternoon on their home floor on Sunday afternoon.
