Sky vs Sun Betting Pick
This game will be played at Mohegan Sun Arena at 7:00 PM ET on Friday, June 10, 2022.
The Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun are both in the top-three in the WNBA standings heading into Friday night’s slate of games. They meet in Connecticut on Friday night, as the Sun look to stay hot and prove once again that they are legitimate contenders to take the Sky’s title this season. In our WNBA predictions for Friday night, we look at Sky vs Sun, in a game that is one of the more significant regular season contests both teams will see the rest of the year.
Why Bet The Sun:
✅ The Sun are playing some of the best basketball in the WNBA, having won six of their last seven games. They are coming off a road trip where they won three of four games against a very difficult schedule. At home against a Sky team that is coming off a loss, the Sun should get the job done here as a two-possession favorite.
✅ Chicago’s loss to the Washington Mystics was a bad one, especially with Elena Delle Donne exiting that game early. The Sky made a valiant comeback attempt with Delle Donne out, but to have played so badly against the Mystics before the Delle Donne exit gave them a comeback opportunity was troubling heading into this step up in competition.
✅ The bigs of the Sun should be able to generate second chances against a Sky team that lacks a truly dominant player at the center position. Connecticut is one of just three teams that averages over 10 offensive rebounds per game, and they should be able to flex their muscle on the offensive glass through the Joneses in this contest.
Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky fell behind by as many as 17 points against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday night. They nearly came back to win the game, tying things up in the final seconds before giving up two free throws in the closing moments of the fourth quarter. But the Sky know that they will need to play much better basketball in the first three quarters of action against the Connecticut Sun to avoid losing a second straight road contest.
Chicago held the Mystics to 3/16 shooting from three-point range on Wednesday, but allowed Washington to make 29 of their 52 two-point shot attempts. The Sun shoot the third-fewest threes per game in the WNBA this season, and the Sky will have to be better at defending the interior and mid-range to win on Friday night.
Connecticut Sun
The Connecticut Sun enter Friday night with the longest active win streak in the WNBA, having won each of their last four games. Included in that winning streak were road wins over the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm, as the Sun have emerged as an upper echelon team in the league over the last couple of weeks. Here, Connecticut has a chance to get another marquee victory, this time on their home floor.
The defense of the Sun is typically the strength of Curt Miller’s team, and the defense of their guards will be key in this contest. Most guards in the WNBA have an athleticism advantage over Courtney Vandersloot of the Sky, and that will be the case in this game. But having the discipline and foresight to neutralize the creativity of Vandersloot is a must as the Sun will look to minimize her ball distribution.
