Why Bet On the Nadal vs Shapovalov Over:
✅ Shapovalov and Nadal have a history of playing competitive matches with one another. In their four non-exhibition matchups, two have gone the distance, as Shapovalov has been able to hang with Nadal throughout his career on both hard and clay courts. Here, in the Australian heat, Shapovalov’s energy levels will help him do so again in a match that shouldn’t end in straight sets.
✅ Denis Shapovalov is playing some elite level tennis at the moment. He was dominant against Reilly Opelka and Sascha Zverev over his last two matches, dropping just one set against those two opponents. After a slow start to the event, Shapovalov has been brilliant on serve and with his groundstrokes in a way that will propel him to what should be a hard-fought contest.

✅ Rafael Nadal has had his flaws in this tournament, as he is coming off of a match against Adrian Mannarino where he was lucky to get through without dropping the first set in a tiebreak. Nadal should win this match, but it should come in four or five sets against a player in Shapovalov who is playing at just about the same level as the Spanish legend.
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal has won four matches out of four at this year’s Australian Open, with the latest coming in straight sets against Adrian Mannarino. Nadal has dropped just one set in this tournament, with that set coming against Karen Khachanov in the third round. But things have been far from perfect for Nadal at this tournament, even in the matches where he has won in straights.
Nadal has failed to get 60% of his first serves in play in half of his matches at this tournament thus far. If he has similar issues landing his first serve in play in this match, it will give Shapovalov the opportunity to use what has been an exemplary return game to create problems for Nadal. And while Nadal is expected to still pull through in this match, it is going to be anything but easy.
Denis Shapovalov
Denis Shapovalov got off to a rocky start at this year’s Australian Open, squeaking by against Laslo Djere and Kwon Soonwoo. But Shapovalov has hit his stride in his last two matches, dropping a set against Reilly Opelka before making quick work of Sascha Zverev in straight sets. Now, Shapovalov faces a third straight match against a quality opponent, and will need to keep his nerve against one of the all-time greats if he wants a shot at the semifinals.
Shapovalov is coming off of two matches in a row where he dominated elite servers in Opelka and Zverev. He did that by getting their serves back deep into the court, allowing him to engage in baseline rallies where his shot making has been incredible. Baseline rallies against Nadal are far more difficult than they are against Opelka and Zverev, but Shapovalov could win plenty of them if he continues to hit the ball out of the back of the court the way he has this past week.
