Maxime Cressy vs John Isner
Why Bet On Cressy:
✅ John Isner is playing some abysmal tennis so far in 2022, going 1-3 in Australia in the new year. His lone win came against a player in Brayden Schnur who is outside of the top-200. He has lost eight of his last 10 completed matches dating back to the 2021 Cincinnati Masters, and hasn’t been able to get by on his blistering first serve alone.
✅ Maxime Cressy, meanwhile, has been playing some stellar tennis of late. He has won eight of his 10 matches in Australia in 2022, making it to the final in the tune-up event in Melbourne, where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Even against Nadal, Cressy saw a first set tiebreak, as he has played quality tennis against everyone he has gone up against this year thus far.

✅ Isner is 4-5 in his last nine hard court major matches, and hasn’t won one since the 2020 Australian Open. He won two matches during that campaign, both against South American players whose games are better suited for clay. Cressy, meanwhile, is on the way up and should be able to clip Isner in the key moments here.
Maxime Cressy
Maxime Cressy comes into the first round of the 2022 Australian Open playing some very strong tennis. He has won eight of 10 matches this year coming into the event, and looked respectable in his two losses to Rafael Nadal and Dan Evans. He has stacked up wins over quality competition including Reilly Opelka, Jaume Munar, Grigor Dimitrov, and Dusan Lajovic already this year, and will look for another against Isner here.
Through his eight main draw matches this year, Cressy has won 92% of his service games, good for fourth on tour in the early stages of this year. Protecting his serve will be even more important than usual against an opponent in Isner who can end a set the moment he picks up a break. After he beat Pablo Carreno-Busta in the first round of last year’s US Open, Cressy has proven that he can get through some of the high-pressure situations.
John Isner
It has been a less than ideal start to the 2022 campaign for John Isner. He is 1-3 on the year, going 1-2 in the ATP Cup before losing to Thanasi Kokkinakis in his opener in the Adelaide 2 event last week. He hasn’t beaten a player inside of the top-100 in the rankings since he beat Jannik Sinner in the Cincinnati Masters last summer, and has gone 2-8 in completed matches since then.
If Isner is going to turn things around against Cressy, he is going to need more than his trademark serve to do it. Isner is 1-4 in tiebreaks so far in 2022, which is simply not going to work for a player who is so one-dimensional and tiebreak dependent. He will need to actually return serve proficiently to win breakers, and potentially avoid breakers, which may not be in the cards for him at this stage of his career.
