On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14-12 at home. This was Aaron Rodgers’ second career victory over Tom Brady in five games.
Rodgers finished 27-of-35 for 255 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. On the other hand, Brady completed 31-of-42 passes for 271 yards and one touchdown. Both Brady and Rodgers were without multiple starting wide receivers, which makes the low number of points scored in the last game.
The game started with a field goal by the Buccaneers, but Rodgers led the offense 75 yards down the field in 10 plays to score the first touchdown. Rodgers’ main weapon was rookie Romeo Doubs, who caught all eight of his targets for 73 yards and scored a touchdown.
Following a Buccaneer’s three-and-out, Rodgers led the offense 71 yards down the field on 12 plays for the game’s second touchdown, a six-yard pass to Lazard. That was the only point Green Bay scored in the last game, and it was all they needed to win over the Buccaneers.
Brady has Russell Gage, whereas Rodgers has Doubs. Brady’s favorite target is Gage. He’s caught 12 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown while also losing a fumble. With 14 seconds remaining on the clock, Brady led the team 89 yards down the field, cutting the deficit to two points.
Both teams began to fall apart in the second half. They punted on all of their subsequent possessions except one, which resulted in an interception. There were a total of 13 punts between the two teams. Rodgers then saluted the special teams unit.
“To look at it as a whole, you have to feel great about the defense and that third category. The ‘wefense’ as we call it,” Rodgers said. “To have Pat (O’Donnell) punt the way that he punted and (Rudy) Ford be around the ball almost every time. Keisean (Nixon) to catch the ball on the one-yard line.”
Rodgers notices infraction
Then, there was a misunderstanding that led to the Bucs being assessed a delay-of-game penalty. Rodgers said that he and the Bucs’ video board operator played a role in the failure of the play. He said that he saw something on the video board along with blasting at the Bucs’ video board operator.
“They should’ve put on the previous play too, it was a delay on both plays,” the 38-years-old quarterback said. “Sometimes you see things in a game. Sometimes the Jumbotron shows things they probably shouldn’t show, even at home. I just saw something, I just passed on the information.”
The clock reached zero before the ball snapped. There was a delay and the delay on the two-point conversion was of a similar nature. Brady refused to make excuses after the game, blaming the miscue and other errors on poor execution. He said that the Bucs needed good execution.
“There was a lot of other times where we had other bad execution,” Brady said. ”I think the reality is when you do that, you don’t have the opportunity to score points.”
