MLS Picks and Predictions – June 8th

With the International Break there are just three games in the MLS and all three take place on Saturday. The games on Saturday feature San Jose (8th in West) hosting FC Dallas (5th in West), Philadelphia Union (1st in East) hosting New York Red Bulls (5th in East) and Minnesota (6th in West) traveling to Colorado (12th in West).

Here are my picks for Saturday’s MLS action.

San Jose Earthquakes (-111) vs FC Dallas (+260): Draw (+275)

San Jose enter Saturday unbeaten in their last three games and unbeaten in eight of 10. The Quakes have been unbeaten in their last three games and have outscored opponents 7-3. At home San Jose is 4-0-3 and have gotten 12 points from their seven home games.

FC Dallas snapped their six game winless run last weekend against Seattle, but Dallas is still having a hard time scoring. During their six game winless streak FCD did not score more than one goal during that stretch. Dallas has gotten six points from seven road games going 2-0-5 on the road.

I like San Jose to continue their good form Saturday.

San Jose leads the all-time series 16-8-8 and are unbeaten in five straight games between the two.

Philadelphia Union (-125) vs New York Red Bulls (+320): Draw (+275)

The Union enter Saturday’s game unbeaten in eight of their last 10 games and have gotten five wins during that time frame. The Union are the best in the East overall and, at home, as they have gotten 17 points from nine games in Chester.

The New York Red Bulls enter Saturday as one of the hottest teams in MLS as they currently are unbeaten in five games and have won four of those fine. NYRB have outscored opponents 12-3 during this five game unbeaten run. On the road, NYRB have gotten eight points from six road games.

I like the New York Red Bulls to get the win Saturday.

The New York Red Bulls leads the all-time series 6-13-5, but the last five games are tied 1-3-1.

Colorado Rapids (+114) vs Minnesota United (+220): Draw (+250)

Colorado have turned their season around by winning three out of four and having an unbeaten run of four straight games. Still sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference, Rapids fans at least now have some hope of a fun and open team. At home Colorado has gotten eight points from eight games.

Minnesota have lost three out of their last five games, including two in a row, and have not been able to win consistently all season long. Minnesota has been one of the better road teams, in the West, getting nine points from eight games.

I like Colorado to continue their good run of form.

The Colorado Rapids lead the all-time series 2-1-1 with Colorado winning the last two meetings.

MLS Picks and Predictions – June 1st

The MLS is just about at the midway point as a few teams have played as many as 16 games already in 2019. Saturday has nine games on the schedule and there are some pretty big games that are going to take place. The biggest game takes place in the West where 10th place Portland go home for the first time all season and open their new, and improved, stadium against league leaders LAFC. There is another battle out West as 7th place FC Dallas welcome 3rd place Seattle for a Saturday night showdown. In the East, 4th place Atlanta welcome 7th place Chicago and 9th place Columbus hosts 6th place NYCFC.

Here are my picks for the Saturday MLS action.

Montreal Impact (-111) vs Orlando City (+300): Draw (+250)

Montreal enter Saturday in middle of pack form over their last five games. The Impact have gotten seven points from their last five games, 2-1-2, with a goal differential of -1, (7-8). In their last five home games, Montreal have outscored opponents 4-3 and have gone 3-1-1 to get 10 points.

Orlando City enter Saturday with just three points in their last five games, as they have gone 1-0-4 during that stretch, but they sit at just a -1 goal differential during that span (6-7). On the road, Orlando have been outscored 4-6, in their last five games, and have gotten just four points going 1-1-3.

I like the Montreal Impact to get the win Saturday.

The Montreal Impact lead the all-time series 6-2-3 and have not lost in the last six games between these two.

Atlanta United (-164) vs Chicago Fire (+400): Draw (+300)

Atlanta United enter Saturday as one of the hottest teams in the East over the last five games. In their last five, Atlanta have outscored opponents 6-3 en route nine points and a 3-0-2 record. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta are the best home team in the East, with 12 points, on a 4-0-1, record over their last five games.

Chicago also enter in good form as they have gotten eight points, 2-2-1, from their last five games overall. Chicago competed in one of the games of the season, so far, last time out when they fought to a 3-3 draw at DC United. Over their last five road games, Chicago have been outscored 4-9 and have gotten just two points going 0-2-3.

I like Atlanta United to continue their good run and get the win Saturday.

Atlanta United leads the all-time series 3-2 with neither team being able to win two in a row in this short series.

Mid-week MLS action is back with five great games on the schedule for Wednesday. Four of the top five Eastern Conference teams are all on the schedule and three of the top six Western Conference teams are also in action Wednesday.

The five scheduled matches are: Atlanta United vs Minnesota, Montreal Impact vs Real Salt Lake, Philadelphia Union vs Colorado Rapids, DC United vs Chicago Fire and Sporting Kansas City vs Los Angeles Galaxy. A great mid-week schedule.

Here are my two best bets for the mid-week MLS action.

Montreal Impact (-125) vs Real Salt Lake (+333): Draw (+260)

Montreal enter Wednesday on a three match winless run and have won just one game in their last five. The Impact currently sit in 4th place, in the East, with 21 points through 15 games. Montreal is 1-3 against Western Conference opponents this season. At home, the Impact have won seven points from four games, but have not won in Montreal in their last two games.

Real Salt Lake enter Wednesday in great form having won three games in a row, two in a row at home, and now sit in 6th place in the West with 19 points through 13 games. RSL are 4-1 against Eastern Conference opponents after their back-to-back wins over Toronto FC and Atlanta United. On the road, RSL has won seven points from seven games.

I like the Montreal Impact to get the win on Wednesday.

The Montreal Impact lead the all-time series 3-2-2 and have not lost to RSL since 2014.

DC United (-118) vs Chicago Fire (+270): Draw (+300)

DC united enter Wednesday off a disappointing 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution. DC are now winless in their last four games and are having a hard time putting the ball in the back of the net. DCU have scored more than one goal just three times in their last 10 outings. Even with all of that said, DC United sit in 1st place in the East with 25 points through 15 games. At home, DC United have won 13 points from seven games.

The Chicago Fire also enter Wednesday on the heels of a disappointing draw. The Fire are winless in their last two games and have won just three of their last 10 overall. Like DC United, the Fire have struggled to score, scoring one goal or less in six of their last 10. Chicago currently occupy 8th place in the East with 17 points through 14 games. Chicago has yet to win on the road and have won just two points from their six road games.

I like DC United to get back to their winning ways.

The Fire lead the H2H, over the last five games, 2-2-1.
