Colorado returns home after a two game road trip where the Avs split their results with a loss to the Calgary Flames followed by a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Monday night. The win over Minnesota pulled the Avs record to 2-1 on the season as it has been business as usual for one of the best teams in the league.
Winnipeg are in the midst of a lengthy swing through the United States to start their season as after a home opener win over the New York Rangers this past Friday, the Jets immediately embarked on a week-long road trip. Game 1 of the three game road trip was a humbling one for the Jets, who were dominated by the Dallas Stars in a 4-1 loss.
The oddsmakers are predicting more struggles on the road for Winnipeg, who are +190 underdogs on the moneyline and -130 to cover the +1.5 puck line. Colorado are the heavy favorites at a hefty -230 on the moneyline. Plus money value can be found on the puck line where the Avs are priced at +110 to win by two or more goals.
Jets vs Avalanche Betting Pick
This game will be played at the Ball Arena at 8:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
Well Rested Avs
The Avs have had plenty of time to rest any potential Stanley Cup hangovers to start the regular season. After playing on back to back nights to open the year, the team has played just once in the last six days.
With plenty of off time, the Avs will have a well rested and prepared squad ready to roll against the Jets. Meanwhile, Winnipeg are preparing for a road back to back as they have to head to Las Vegas for a Thursday night clash. Safe to say the schedule advantage plays in the hands of the defending champs.
Ball Arena Fortress
Colorado simply does not lose often at the Ball Arena. 1-0 on the season at home so far after their Opening Night blowout over the Blackhawks, the Avs continued a trend of home dominance dating back to last year’s championship season.
The Avs went an outstanding 32-9 at home in the regular season last year. A trend that continued in the playoffs during their run to the Stanley Cup as the Avs went 7-3 at home in the playoffs. It isn’t a fun trip to Denver to play the Avs and certainly won’t be fun for the Jets, who are playing the defending champs as the first leg of a back to back on the road.
Winnipeg are 1-8 in their last nine Jets vs Avalanche games played at the Ball Arena.

Hellebuyck Gets The Start
Winnipeg head coach Rick Bowness appears to be going all-in on trying to get the points out of the first leg of his team’s aforementioned road back to back. Bowness is giving his workhorse starting goaltender Connor Hellebuyck the start against the Avs, expecting to use backup Dave Rittich on Thursday night in Las Vegas.
Hellebuyck started the most games in the league last season with 68 games played in the Winnipeg crease. Hellebuyck’s 2022-23 has been up and down so far as he was outstanding in the home opener win over the Rangers, stopping 40 out of 41 shots faced. In the second game of the season, Hellebuyck was much shakier despite facing fewer shots. Hellebuyck made just 25 saves against the Stars in the 4-1 loss.
Alexandr Georgiev will get the start in goal for the Avs. Georgiev has won both of his starts thus far, helping cement him as the early top option in goal for Colorado.
Avalanche -1.5
Avs -1.5 is the play for Wednesday night as the defending champs will continue to torment the Jets at the Ball Arena. Winnipeg has too many question marks early in the season and too poor of a record in Denver to not consider the plus money value on the Avalanche puck line.
Colorado has won both of their games this season by three goals and historically dominate the Jets. Expect another 60 minute effort from the champs at home as they should make easy work over a Winnipeg team trying to find its footing on a challenging early season road swing.
