Wednesday night’s NHL prediction comes from the biggest of the just two scheduled November 2 games in the league as the Toronto Maple Leafs look to end an embarrassing four game losing streak against the Philadelphia Flyers. Toronto dropped four games during the Western Conference road swing, losing to all three California teams along with the Vegas Golden Knights to fall to 4-4-2 on the season. That is far from the expectations in Leafs land and if the team can’t get it going on the ice soon, changes are likely coming behind the bench or in the front office.
The oddsmakers expect the Leafs to end their losing streak against Philly, pricing them at -310 on the moneyline and -130 to cover the -1.5 puck line. The total for Wednesday’s Flyers vs Maple Leafs game is set at 6.5.

Flyers vs Maple Leafs Betting Pick
This game will be played at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto at 7:00 pm Eastern on November 2, 2022.
Why Bet Matthews Over 1.5 Points:
✅ There is not much value to be found backing an expected and likely Maple Leafs win against the Flyers, taking us to the prop market to look for a plus money play.
✅ Matthews had a three point night in the last Leafs win over the Winnipeg Jets, registering three assists in the team’s 4-1 win.

✅ Toronto will be looking to recharge their offensive production against the Flyers backup goaltender as Felix Sandstrom is expected to get the start over number one netminder Carter Hart.
Philadelphia Flyers
Few expected the Philadelphia Flyers to have as hot of a start as they enjoyed in the month of October. Philly sits at 5-2-2 and the vibes are high despite dropping back to back overtime games entering Wednesday’s matchup with the Leafs.
The Flyers lost 4-3 in OT to the Carolina Hurricanes before losing 1-0 in overtime last night against the New York Rangers in a defensive affair. Rangers forward Chris Kreider found the back of the net in the 3-on-3 overtime session to give the Flyers their second straight loss.
Despite the hot start, the Flyers are still firmly in the middle of the Metropolitan Division standings. Philadelphia sits in a three way tie for fourth place in the division with the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals and could climb to a tie for first place with a win over the Leafs.
Head coach John Tortorella can credit his top defense pairing for much of the team’s early season success. Tony DeAngelo and Ivan Provorov have been one of the league’s best pairings this year, combining for 12 points on the season and 50 blocked shots this year as the pair has done great work on both ends of the ice.

Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs need to get their offense going now that they are back on home ice as scoring was a major issue on their winless road trip. Toronto’s high powered offense only scored nine times in the four game span, averaging 2.70 goals per game. That low level of production is not going to get the job done and the Leafs big guns need to step up to get back to winning ways.
Toronto are also looking for their role players to step up. The top two forward lines and first defense pairing have played well, but the supporting cast hasn’t made enough contributions to help push the team over the line. Bottom six forwards David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok and Pierre Engval all need to step up and start to produce as the trio has combined for just six goals and two assists in 10 games this season.
Ilya Samsonov will start in goal again for the Leafs and has been the team’s bright spot throughout all of the early season losing. The Russian netminder replaced Matt Murray after Murray’s early season injury and has been the top guy since Game 2 of the season. Samsonov has a stellar .920 save percentage and a 2.35 goals against average and just needs some goals from his teammates to start racking up wins between the pipes for the Leafs.
