Carolina Hurricanes vs Boston Bruins Game 2 (BOS Leads 1-0)

Game 1 of this series featured an exciting third period, especially for Bruins fans. With Carolina up 2-1 heading into the third, the Bruins answered quickly to tie and then take the lead. 2:26 into the third period the Bruins tied it up with a power-play goal. 28 seconds later, another Carolina penalty led to another power-play goal to take a 3-2 lead. After about 15 scoreless minutes, the Bruins put in an empty netter with 2:13 remaining and then sealed the game with another 11 seconds later to win Game 1 with a score of 5-2.
With the Game 1 victory, the Bruins snapped the Hurricanes six-game winning streak and are now on a four-game winning streak of their own. The Hurricanes missed a great chance to steal a win with Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (who leads Boston in ice time) suspended for the game for a hit to the head of Columbus’ Josh Anderson in the final game of the second-round series. Even more deflating was the fact that McAvoy’s replacement scored the opening goal in the game less than three minutes into the first period.
Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask has been on a tear as of late and stopped 29 of 31 shots in Game 1. With McAvoy now back, that top three Bruins defense just got even tougher for Carolina to handle. Hurricanes goalie Petr Mrazek played great for two periods in the first game but fell apart in the third, thanks to back-to-back power plays for the Bruins. I think both goalies will have good games again this afternoon, but the way Boston is playing, and now with McAvoy back, I think the Bruins have the edge in this one. Look for Boston to get the first goal before Carolina ties it, only to see Boston take the lead in the third period again, sealing it with an empty-net goal in the final minutes.
