Head to Head
Teams Last 10
This game will be played at Empower Field at Mile High at 8:20 PM ET on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Why Bet The 49ers:
✅ The biggest component of this game is a straight up coaching mismatch between these two teams. Kyle Shanahan is a much better coach than first year head man Nathaniel Hackett in Denver, who has already made a ton of mistakes in managing games. Here, Shanahan will coach circles around Hackett and lead his team to a win as a result.
✅ Trey Lance is going to miss the rest of the season for the 49ers, making Jimmy Garoppolo the starting quarterback once again. As sad as the Lance injury is, Garoppolo is a better quarterback right now than the developing Lance. That will help the Niners to win this game on the road against the Broncos on Sunday Night Football.
✅ The 49ers have one of the best defenses in the NFL, and have shown that through the first two weeks of the season. San Francisco has allowed 4.1 yards per play, which ranks behind only the Bills in the league so far. Against a Denver team that has averaged just 16 points per game through two weeks, the Niners will continue to prosper on the defensive side of the ball.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers rebounded nicely from their Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears by beating up on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. They held the Seahawks to just seven points, winning easily despite suffering a season ending injury to starting quarterback Trey Lance. This week, Jimmy Garoppolo gets his first start of the season in San Francisco, and it will be interesting to see how that turns out for the team from the Bay Area.
Garoppolo is a better passer than Lance at this point in their careers, while Lance has the mobility to add an extra dimension to the San Francisco offense. As long as Garoppolo does not come out and play terribly, though, there should not be a huge dropoff despite the unfortunate injury to Lance.
Denver Broncos
Denver got a much tougher game than it expected in Week 2 of the season, barely beating the Houston Texans at home in a low-scoring affair. The Broncos won 16-9 over Houston, in a game where Russell Wilson struggled. The new Broncos quarterback had just 219 passing yards, as the Broncos scored just 16 points for the second straight week.
This week, the Broncos need to take some steps forward on the offensive side of the ball. If they do not, they could fall behind the dynamic San Francisco offense in a hurry. This will start with Wilson in the passing game, but the Broncos should also prioritize Javonte Williams in the running game to maximize their potential.
