Giants vs Patriots Betting Pick
This game will be played at Gillette Stadium at 7:00 PM ET on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
The New York Giants and New England Patriots both have young quarterbacks they hope to see take steps forward in 2022. On Thursday, though, their focus will be on roster evaluation as they face one another in their preseason opener. In our NFL picks for the first full week of preseason action, we look at Giants vs Patriots from Foxborough.
Why Bet The Giants:
✅ First year Giants head coach Brian Daboll has stated that he expects his starters to play in this game. While the Giants’ starters are responsible for a pretty terrible season last year, they will get the Giants off to a fast start as New York clearly is looking to build a culture with Daboll’s comments ahead of their preseason opener.
✅ The Patriots are trying a new offensive coordinator for this season. This will be Matt Patricia’s first game in charge of their offense, as he was a defensive assistant before his failed stint as the head coach of the Detroit Lions. That is not going to bode well off the bat for the Patriots in this game, even if Patricia figures things out as this season wears on.

✅ Neither team has a great set of backup quarterbacks coming into this game. But the Giants have a slight edge in that department, especially with the third string quarterbacks. Davis Webb is more experienced at this level than Patriots third stringer Bailey Zappe, who is in his first year as a pro and will likely have a very stripped down version of the offense to work with.
New York Giants
The New York Giants look vastly different than the team that was among the worst in the NFL a season ago. An updated coaching staff and a healthy Daniel Jones have prompted high hopes among Giants fans going into the 2022 campaign. They will look to get off to a good start on Thursday night in their preseason opener to set the tone for what they hope is a year of improvement.
Brian Daboll said that he is going to play the Giants’ starters in this game, which is very telling. The Giants were a disaster last season, and no member of the current roster should be safe for the foreseeable future. By playing the starters, Daboll gets to look at everyone in this game, and gets to instill a mindset into this team that every player needs to earn their place.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots enter this season on much more solid ground than the Giants do. Mac Jones was a success story in his rookie year, getting the Patriots to the playoffs in his first season as their starting quarterback. This is the first game for the Patriots since their loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round, and the first chance to see Jones after his first offseason after his rookie year.
For the Patriots, the questions coming into this game are how much Jones plays and what kind of play calling we see from Matt Patricia offensively. The thought of having Patricia call plays on offense is shocking given how bad his Lions were on that side of the ball with him in charge. But Bill Belichick clearly knows more about his staff than I do, so I will reserve judgement.
