Head to Head
Teams Last 10
This game will be played at NRG Stadium at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 2, 2022.
Why Bet The Texans:
✅ The Chargers are simply not the best version of themselves right now due to all of the injuries they are dealing with. Justin Herbert is playing hurt after fracturing the cartilage around his ribs. J.C. Jackson and Joey Bosa are injured on defense. There are offensive line injuries. All of this helps the Texans, who will keep this game reasonably close throughout.

✅ Stylistically, the Chargers are just not equipped to take advantage of the weakness of Houston’s defense. The Texans are one of the better pass defenses in the NFL, but the worst run defense, allowing over 200 yards per game on the ground. But the Chargers are dead last in rushing, averaging just 59 yards per game with their rushing attack. The Chargers will be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole in this game.
✅ Houston is one of four teams that are still undefeated against the spread this season. They are 2-0-1 against the number on the year. While the Chargers are off to a strong start against the spread themselves, going 2-1 through three weeks, the Texans have been exceeding bookmaker expectations and should continue to do so here.
Los Angeles Chargers
Last week was all about whether or not Justin Herbert would play going into the Los Angeles Chargers‘ Week 3 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Herbert did end up playing, but it did not matter, as the Chargers were demolished by the visiting Jags. Herbert did have 297 passing yards, but it was Trevor Lawrence who had a better game on that day as the Chargers fell to 1-2.
This week, Herbert will be expected to play once again, but there are questions all over the field from an injury perspective for the Chargers. With multiple key defenders dealing with ailments of their own, the health of the Chargers could help make things easier on Davis Mills and a Houston offense that needs all the help it can get.
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans are winless so far in the 2022 NFL season. They tied the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, while falling to the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears on the road after that. Here, the Texans return home for the first time since Week 1, where they will look to get into the win column against a banged up Chargers team.
Stopping the run and not turning the ball over are the two areas the Texans need to focus on in this Chargers vs Texans game and going forward. They are allowing over 200 yards per game on the ground this season, allowing just five fewer yards on the ground than they are through the air through three weeks of action. If the Texans can prevent the Chargers from getting going on the ground, they can potentially beat a one-dimensional football team, even if that dimension is very good in the form of the Chargers passing game.
