In this weekend’s Jets vs Broncos game, the New York Jets will try for a third time to get their first win with rookie Zach Wilson at quarterback. To do so, they will have to get past a Broncos team that is off to a 2-0 start, looking convincing in both wins so far. In our NFL picks for this week, we take a look at what the Jets and Broncos have done so far this season and make our best bet for the game.
Jets vs Broncos Betting Pick
This game will be played at Empower Field at Mile High at 4:05 PM ET on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
Why Bet The Jets:
✅ The New York Jets are 0-2 so far this season and have scored just 20 points through the first two games of the season. Even with their anemic offensive numbers, though, the Jets have been decent on defense and should not be a double-digit underdog heading into this contest in Denver.
✅ Zach Wilson isn’t quite as bad as he looked last week against the Patriots. Bill Belichick historically has done very well against rookie quarterbacks in his career, and last week against Zach Wilson was no exception. Expect a slight bounce back from Wilson in this game, as he faces a team that is not as well coached as New England.
✅ Teddy Bridgewater-led teams have covered the spread at a rate of over 70% in games he has started in his career. So far, the Broncos are 2-0 against the spread with Bridgewater as their signal caller. But they have only played the Giants and Jaguars, and Jets vs Broncos should be more competitive than those previous games.
New York Jets
The New York Jets are off to an 0-2 start this season, but they haven’t been terrible despite breaking in a rookie quarterback. Their ability to keep competitive with the Carolina Panthers in the season opener has aged well, as the Panthers looked great again in Week 2. But turnovers proved to be a problem for Wilson and the Jets last week, which New York will have to address if they want to avoid falling to 0-3.
On the bright side for the Jets, their defense has come to play early this season. They allowed under 20 points against the Panthers in Week 1, and hung in there defensively for most of their game with the Patriots as well. If the Jets can limit their turnovers in this matchup, they should make the Broncos work for everything they get.
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos have been dominant through two weeks, beating up on the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars. But, it should be said that most NFL teams are capable of beating up on the Giants and Jaguars. This week will be the first game resembling a test for the Broncos this season, as they face a solid Jets defense in their home opener.
So far this year, the Broncos have allowed just 251 yards per game on defense, which ranks third in the NFL through two weeks. They are also allowing just 13 points per game, which has completely taken the pressure off of Teddy Bridgewater and the rest of the Broncos offense. The question now is whether they can continue getting stops as they get set to take on more legitimate competition going forward.
