The Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars were expected to be the two worst teams in the AFC South by a wide margin. But thanks to the flaws of the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, no team can be ruled out of this division just yet. In Week 5, the Texans and Jags meet in a game that could have massive implications down the road in the AFC South. In our NFL predictions for this week, we break down this Texans vs Jaguars clash.

This game will be played at TIAA Bank Field at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
Why Bet The Texans:
✅ The Jaguars have been crowned as some sort of postseason contender early this season, but we need to pump the brakes on celebrating them early in the season. Their two wins this season came against a deeply flawed Colts team and a Chargers team that was incredibly banged up. They will likely win this game, but laying over a touchdown with a team that has accomplished nothing is not the route we’re taking here.

✅ Jacksonville got off to a fast start against the Eagles last week thanks to some Philadelphia mistakes. But the Jaguars gained just 219 yards of offense when that contest was completed. Houston’s defense is way worse than that of the Eagles, but Houston should be able to slow down a Jaguars team that has only been good offensively in one game this season.
✅ Despite the Jaguars having a better record this season, the Texans have a slightly better record against the spread. Houston is 2-1-1 against the number on the season, while the Jaguars are 2-2 against the spread in 2022. Houston had a chance to cover late against the Chargers as well, but failed to get a late stop to get there, but should be able to get back to winning against the number in Week 5.
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans were unable to cause much trouble for the Los Angeles Chargers at home last week, falling by double digits at NRG Stadium. This week, the Texans will look for a win over a division opponent, something they have yet to claim this season. With the Texans at 0-3-1 on the season so far, they are the only winless team remaining in the NFL entering Week 5.
To get their first win of the season, the Texans will need to do a good job of slowing down the run against the Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence has been inconsistent early this year, lacking explosiveness in the passing game. If the Texans can fix their issues against the run here against the Jaguars, they will put plenty of pressure on Lawrence and could finally get into the win column.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars got out to a two-possession lead over the Philadelphia Eagles. But that was where the fun ended for the Jags, as they were outscored 29-7 the rest of the way in an eight-point loss. Here, the Jaguars will look for a win that would put them back above the .500 mark on the season, as Jacksonville enters this week at 2-2.
This game is an interesting test for the Jaguars, who have won two games that might not have been as impressive as they looked on paper. While the Texans are far from one of the best teams in the NFL, a convincing win against a division opponent would be a nice start toward proving they are for real.
