Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears were blown out last week by the Buffalo Bills, dropping to 3-12 on the season. They are out of playoff contention, but they still have a vested interest in the rest of their games in the form of their draft positioning. A win by the Houston Texans in either of the last two games of the season, combined with two Bears losses, would mean a number one overall pick for Chicago.
To win this game, the Bears will need to be better on defense than they have been all year. The Bears rank 31st in scoring defense this season, with only the Lions being worse in that area. But the combination of the Bears’ porous defense and anemic offense could make this game just another loss in a long losing streak for Chicago.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are still alive in the NFC playoff hunt at 7-8 on the season, which is a win in and of itself for a franchise that was drafting second overall earlier this year. Detroit suffered a crucial loss last week against the Carolina Panthers, as they gave up 37 points to Sam Darnold and the Panthers. But a couple of wins to close out the season could be enough to help the Lions get to the postseason at 9-8.
For Detroit, their offense will look to have another huge game against the Bears. They scored 31 points against the Bears in a 31-30 win, and will look to put up similar numbers with an offense that is healthy once again at the skill positions.
