This game will be played at SoFi Stadium at 4:05 PM ET on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Why Bet The Falcons:
✅ It is hard to justify betting the Rams as such a heavy favorite right now given the issues they showed against the Buffalo Bills. Matthew Stafford clearly is not fully right health wise, and was caught on camera saying that he couldn’t throw the ball. He will be better than he was against the Bills, but not good enough to lay double digits with just yet.
✅ The Atlanta Falcons were one of four teams in the NFL to rush for over 200 yards in Week 1. The addition of Marcus Mariota at quarterback allowed them to run both traditionally and with their quarterback, which is helpful given their dire wide receiver situation. Expect the ground game of the Falcons to help them chew clock like it did in Week 1, when they had the ball for over 33 minutes against the Saints.
✅ Last week, the Rams allowed the Buffalo Bills to convert nine of their 10 third down conversion attempts. They will surely be better at defending third downs against the Falcons, but even some improvement leaves the Falcons plenty of room to have a big day on third down. The mobility of Mariota will present similar problems to the mobility of Josh Allen from Week 1 for the Rams.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons led for the majority of their Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints. But they could not hold on in the fourth quarter, getting outscored 17-3 in the final 15 minutes by New Orleans. Here, the Falcons will hope that an unpredictable offense will lead to more problems for the defense of the Los Angeles Rams.
Atlanta got 120 rushing yards from Cordarrelle Patterson in Week 1, and got another 72 yards on the ground from Marcus Mariota. Mariota will need to improve on his 215 passing yards from last week against the Saints, but the balance of the Falcons on offense is something that could cause the Rams problems.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams opened the 2022 NFL season at home as the defending champions. But they failed to take advantage of that situation, getting blown out by the Buffalo Bills in the second half of their Week 1 encounter. After a 10-10 tie after a half of football, the Rams were outscored 21-0 in the final 30 minutes of play, with concerns about Matthew Stafford’s health getting louder as the game went on.
For the Rams, generating some offense on the ground would be a big help, so that they are not asking a banged up Stafford to do too much. Los Angeles had 52 yards rushing yards against the Bills, averaging 2.9 yards per carry as a team. That was the worst rushing total of any team in the league in Week 1, and the Rams’ struggles chewing up yardage on the ground could have a negative impact on not just their title defense, but their playoff hopes this season.
