49ers vs Lions is one of the more lopsided matchups the NFL has to offer. In fairness, that will be the case every week the Lions play a higher end team. The Lions have one of the more anemic rosters in the NFL, and that holds true on both sides of the ball. Jared Goff leading a mostly replacement level group of pass catchers in conjunction with a leaky defense is just an ugly recipe. The 49ers on the other hand should have an explosive offense, headlined by the Shanahan scheme creating rushing lanes and the league’s best group of run after the catch pass catchers.
This game will be played on Sunday, September 12th, 2021 at 1PM EST at Ford Field.
Why bet the 49ers?
✅ The 49ers front on defense will be much healthier and better this year than they were last. Injuries truly decimated their defensive line and it made the defense a shell of the one that played in the Super Bowl the prior season. This is terrible news for the Lions. Jared Goff will not be protected a running game, nor does he have a dynamic group of pass catchers to elevate him. Once the 49ers are playing from ahead, this game will have the potential to get ugly.
✅ The 49ers group of skill position players is not exactly a group of household names, but they serve their purpose incredibly well. Running back Raheem Mostert is a great fit in the Shanahan scheme and will be the true lead of the San Francisco backfield. The coaching staff believes Mostert to be instrumental to their success, as he is the only offensive player that was afforded preseason protections in line with that of Geroge Kittle. Speaking of Kittle, the elite tight end joins Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel as players that are truly elite at gaining yards after the catch. This makes the life of whoever plays quarterback in SanFrancisco quite easy, and makes the offense keep on moving.
✅ This is a game that sets up to be a true blowout. The Lions do not have a defense that will hold up at any level, particulalry when being decimated in time of possession. The 49ers offense can run or pass to gain a lead, and can certainly run to protect and extend a lead. The Lions offense will be anemic, and they simply do not have the quarterback play nor the skill postition difference makers to overcome a deficit. It would be not surpirse to see the 49ers have multiple takeaways once they’ve built a lead and turn the game from an easy win to an outright blowout.
