The third installment of the Lyon Open has an extremely strong, and deep field, considering that the tournamnet is held one week prior to the French Open. All seeded players are ranked in the top 41 in the world and the top three seeds are top 22 players in the world. There are also some big time clay players entered in the draw as Dusan Lajovic, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Pablo Cuevas and Pablo Andujar are all competing in Lyon. Four of last year’s quarterfinalists are back looking to defend those points and Dusan Lajovic enters looking to defend semifinal points from here last year.

The 2018 version of this tournament also had a pretty stacked field as the likes of Dominic Thiem (the eventual champion), John Isner, Jack Sock and Gael Monfils all competed leading up the seasons second Grand Slam of the season. The final was Dominic Thiem vs Gilles Simon with Thiem taking home the title in three sets.

Semifinal and Champion Predictions

The two semifinals will be #5 Dusan Lajovic vs #4 Felix Auger-Aliassime and #2 Roberto Bautista-Agut vs Pablo Cuevas. Lajovic has a tough road, but I like that way he is playing this year and he will knock off Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in the first round and then #1 Nikoloz Basilashvili in the quarterfinals. Felix Auger-Aliassime has a pretty comfortable draw and I think he beats Martin Klizan in the quarterfinals. Roberto Bautista-Agut Reilly Opelka and Richard Gasquet to get to the semis and Pablo Cuevas upsets Huey Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov on his way to the semifinals.

The final will be #4 Felix Auger-Aliassime vs #2 Roberto Bautista-Agut with the young Canadian, Auger-Aliassime, winning his first career title.
