Toronto Raptors
The Raptors pivotal eight game road trip started successfully on Wednesday with a win over the Sacramento Kings. Toronto smothered the Kings, holding a team that averages 130 points per game to just 95 in the win.
Head coach Nick Nurse got himself off of the hot seat in a disappointing season with a successful game plan against the Kings. Toronto frustrated Kings power forward Domantas Sabonis, forcing the talented loser forward into a litany of turnovers and one of his worst nights of the season.
Nurse will need to scheme another masterful game plan against the Warriors to overcome the Raptors weakness in defending the three point shot. Toronto allows the third highest three point percentage in the NBA at 37.4%, a troubling stat for a team playing Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole and the sharpshooting Warriors.
Toronto will also need to overcome their poor road record against one of the better home teams in the league. The Raptors are a dismal 7-15 on the road this season but did beat the third place Kings in their last game.
Golden State Warriors
Injuries to Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins along with poor road play has the Warriors sitting at .500 after 48 games this season. However, their play at home has many still viewing the defending champs as a title contender this season.
The Dubs are 18-6 at the Chase Center this season, outscoring their opponents by 6.1 points per game at home. While their play on the road has been poor, those numbers indicate they are still one of the best teams in the league as long as they are on their home floor.
Golden State is coming off a big 122-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday that saw Jordan Poole score the winning bucket at the final buzzer with a layup. The game turned into a crazy one after Steph Curry with 1:14 remaining in the game for throwing his mouthpiece in the stands but the Warriors again proved they are still a contender by defending their home court.
The matchup against the Raptors gives the Warriors a chance to win consecutive games for the first time in the month of January. A lack of consistency has the Warriors floating at .500 and eighth in the West as the team desperately needs a win streak to get out of the play-in seeds.
