Yohan Lainesse vs Darian Weeks Fight Odds
Yohan Lainesse vs Darian Weeks
Fight is at 170 lbs and is -190 to end inside the distance.
Yohan Lainesse is a wildly interesting fighter to get as underdog to open this UFC 279 fight card. Lainesse is a reputed knock out artist and had a quick knockout on DWCS to get into the promotion. He was then matched up with Gabe Green in his debut. He dropped Green in that fight, but likely learned a lesson on putting 100% power behind every shot. Lainesse gassed terribly in that fight and was finished in the second round. Many in the community are lamenting his gas tank issues, but I do believe those to be overblown. Now, he is not going to be confused with Colby Covington or Merab Dvalishvili in terms of conditioning, but I do not believe we see him fade in the same fashion. He is an explosive striker with a well rounded game, and we are going to see more knock outs from him in the UFC. He also enters a matchup that I think brings a favorable style in this particular matchup.

Darian Weeks will enter his third UFC fight, and is still looking for his first win. Weeks is well rounded enough, as he is a decent striker and can complete takedowns when given the opportunity. While his boxing and striking is adequate, he does not bring huge power. He is also a fighter that has been very accepting of a brawling type of fight. If he enters into that type of exchange in this matchup, he is going to wake up looking at the ring lights. Even if he is not entering into a full fledged brawl, Weeks is absorbing over six significant strikes per minute in the UFC, and that is simply not a reliable way to go against a KO striker. Weeks path to victory in this fight will be to wear on the gas tank of Lainesse, and take the fight over late.
What To Bet
No matter which way the fight goes, I believe Lainesse takes the first round with ease, and likely scores a finish. I also believe he will have no problem winning a second round if it gets that far. Where it gets dicey is in the third round, but I believe Lainesse will have two rounds in the bag at that point. That said, I believe a KO from Lainesse is easily the most likely outcome of this fight. Betting ITD at +200 is a nice return, but there is an even better bet. Lainesse to win in Round 1 returns a cool +475 and that will be our avenue of attack in this fight.
Betting Pick: Lainesse to win in Round 1 +475
